I keep hearing that the weather in Omaha is several different kinds of hellish, so I'm happy to be out in Utah where it never gets below twenty. Seriously. I can walk around in 30-degree weather with a sweater and be okay out here.

Christmas day was a surprisingly good day. Despite my apprehension, it was an awesome day. We had tasty homemade crêpes for breakfast, courtesy of mom, and then we opened presents. I got way more presents than I ever expected to get as I opened my presents in Omaha before I came home (per our law school tradition, between me and Mom), and I felt so bad that Mom had hardly any presents to open. Which makes me think I ought to make her presents randomly throughout the year. I totally spaced taking any pictures during the gift opening, so I took some after.

I ended up napping most of the day, curled up with Audi the chihuahua (she thinks I am her personal space heater). We had a huge Christmas dinner, turkey plus trappings. One of the greatest parts, of course, was the Christmas crackers, because those always make me smile. Perhaps the coolest part of the day was, after supper, we had an old-fashioned FHE. And I do mean old-fashioned. We sang the Grand Old Duke Of York song (which is probably a mystery to my American friends), Popcorn Popping on the Apricot Tree, and My Hat (it has three corners). It was like being a little kid again and brought back so many memories.

I ended up staying up late with Shaz and Wayne watching Changeling, which reminded me that hey, Angelina Jolie can act, and John Malkovich isn't always the bad guy. I stayed up fairly late writing (I'm behind two chapters in Confiteor but really, really wanted to write a Christmas story for the cast and crew of the Saints and Erinyes), and then...

Saturday. Not a bad day, really. More me sleeping in. Goofing off. Went out to the shops and picked up some very nice fancy beads (man, shouldn't have gone to Robert's) and some crocheting thread to attempt some patterns on Alison's wedding veil. I'll probably do the veil in 40 gauge thread, but I'm practicing on 10-gauge in the meantime to make sure I know what I'm doing. Also 40-gauge frustrates me very easily. We had supper, an then Shaz, Wayne, and I went to play laser tag, as mum had given us a gift card to go play for two hours. We played three games in a row (out of the three of us, I was the best shot, but then I was the most experienced, and Shaz beat Wayne more often than not), and then we played miniature golf (Wayne owned us all). We played our final game, just the three of us, free-for-all, and had a total blast, but now I'm sore. I was so tired last night afterwards - I felt like an old woman.

The last time we were at the laser tag place, my friends and I spent an obscene amount of money on the punching ball. This time I only spent two bucks on it, which is pretty good for me. And man, the ninjitsu has paid off. I can punch almost twice as hard as I used to, and I punch only a little less hard than Wayne. I was pretty pleased. My technique has improved, so my punches are more consistent. I'd hate to see how hard Chani and Justin hit now.

Afterwards we came home, and I wrote, and then I went to bed.

Shaz and Wayne left this morning sometime while the rest of us were at church (Mum's a bit at her wit's end with those dogs) and then I came home from church and napped. Er. A little long. But I did finally clean my room (which was a tip, even for me), and then Bob and Faye came over for dinner, which is always good times. Mum and I went through the photos on my laptop, as Shaz and Wayne got her one of those awesome digital frames that rotates pictures, and she's been collecting pictures of us, which is fun. Sadly, since she got loads of pictures from me, it's going to seem like she has more pictures of me than of Shaz, but Shaz isn't much one for getting her picture taken these days. Figures.

And now...now I shall write letters. Because my sister and her husband got me some lovely customized stationery (that my sister designed, because she is an artist at heart). I found out today that one of the old ladies I write was recently widowed, and by recently I mean her husband passed away this morning. I also found out that her birthday is boxing day, and I feel a prat since I didn't send her a birthday card - only a Christmas card. I'd planned on visiting her while I was down here.

Man.

I also really, really, need to fill out my bar paperwork.

This stay home has been good so far.
