Day 759: Plunge and Scrub
May. 12th, 2009 07:28 pmSo, in the spirit of being done with school, I decided to do something useful with my day. Mostly in the vein of, well, non-school stuff. So I cleaned. Goodness gracious, I cleaned. The craft corner is mostly empty, but until I get my new bookcases some of that stuff is just stuck where it is. I can genuinely see my floor now, and all my school notes have been sorted or tossed, as needed. I put all my comics away - and my comic collection is scary-big now that I go to the comic store regularly. I got my blank paper sorted and old school folders in place and some folders prepped for next year. I got all my letter-writing supplies on one shelf, and almost all of my crafting supplies - armor jewelry, tatting, some crocheting on one shelf. (The yarn is what takes up crazy space.) I have my stationery in one place as well, and even my gaming stuff (TTRPG, not console) in one place as well. Once I cleaned everything up I discovered that I wasn't running out of room nearly as much as my mom was afraid of. Still, a couple more bookcases will be good.
I started at one end of the flat and moved toward the kitchen/door, and so my DVDs are all brand spankin' new organized, as well as my bookshelves. I have an entire bookshelf set aside pretty much for all the books I didn't get to read when I bought that I plan on reading this summer. There are still some boxes in awkward places and stuff, mostly in the way of rock band/guitar hero gear, but them's the breaks, right? Still, it feels good to have a generally organized home, and I'm enjoying it immensely. The fact that it was raining all day and gave me no urge to go running outside to play genuinely helped my productivity.
I listened to music all day today, too, because my mother taught me to do housework to music. I listened to The Meaning of Happy (Same Same's only album) twice, because I'm a fangirl like that. I listened to Chapter One: A New Beginning and Submodalities by the Moffatts as well...I'm sure some discerning fellow fan has spotted the link. I also listened to the commentary on the pilot episode of Criminal Minds, because then I could pretend other people were in the apartment with me.
I was going to go to a baseball game with Amber tonight, and when I drove out there I noticed people were leaving, so I called Amber, and sure enough, the game was cancelled, so I'm back at my apartment. Where I plan on still being useful. Freakin' A, I owe so many people stories, and I honestly cannot remember the last time I stayed up till wee hours just writing without getting distracted by other business. So tonight I shall write, and then maybe, hopefully, if BenTen's laptop cooperates, we'll game.
Yesterday I finished off Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and was just broken-hearted to learn that it had been cancelled (although that's apparently old news). It's true, though that television execs don't care what's entertaining, they care what makes money, and apparently the show wasn't making money. Extra sad. But I enjoyed it, and if it comes out on DVD I'll be all over that. I liked Thomas Dekker when he was in Heroes, and I liked him in TTSCC, so that's good. Also I love Summer Glau from her days as River Tam, so rock and roll there. And it was good to see Brian Austin Green again. Also, Jonathan Jackson grew up. I wonder when that happened.
My mother sent me an awesome box of fortune cookies that I have pretty much eaten through all by myself, and I like reading the fortunes. Some have seemed apropos, others bizarre, and so far only one repeat. I'm keeping them all. But just as I was heading out the door today, the fortune in the cookie informed me that I was going to cross "the great waters". Not an encouraging thing to read when it had been raining all day, but pretty funny all the same.
So...I'm going to attempt to get some stuff written that should have been written long ago. And some stuff that should have been written a few weeks ago. I don't know how I'm going to get done all the things I planned to get done and also have a social life in the evenings and read in the sun on the weekends, but this summer I plan on filling my life with stuff that is distinctly not-school, so here goes.
Here goes.
