I've done it. Take two gaming relatives - in-laws or immediate, it really doesn't matter - who love to game and unleash upon them the coolness that is Tekken 5. On Friday Derrick and I hung out (I was invited to his father's 50th birthday party - and 50 so isn't old) and when we went to the mall Derrick bought me the game as a belated birthday present. Pretty hefty and expensive in my opinion, but as gamers we deemed it a good investment because, unlike an RPG, a group of people can have loads of fun playing it, and we did, winning new characters and trying out some new fighters that haven't appeared on previous games. Even now, though, I can hear my sister and her husband battling through story mode. They've played it more than I have, I think. I really have created a monster.

The party at Derrick's place was all right. We were the youngest. It was weird. My parents never have barbecues like that. Then again, my mom sort of despises most of the neighbors. Derrick and I spent some time chasing down X Japan sheet music that I found and getting it all set up so his little sister could play it. Both of his sisters are excellent pianists, and watching them play sort of makes me regret stopping lessons.

Saturday was sort of boring and dull. You'd think that with all this free time (because with work there is no homework) I could spend loads of time on the net doing things I wish I had time for in college, but I just sort of laze around and don't get anything productive done. I'm lucky if I can keep caught up on Megatokyo or Schnoogle or anything like that. And this poor journal seems sadly neglected. And the novel I'm working on is hitting me with partial writing block, which can sometimes be worse than complete writer's block. It's one thing to not know where you're going, and another to know where you're going but not how to get there. My parents' anniversary dinner was on Saturday night (even though their official anniversary was on Sunday) so Nicole (my sister's marine friend) came over with the rest of the family and we had a huge formal dinner. We watched movies (Hostage and Coach Carter) and after dinner we played video games.

Sunday I went to church, but right after I got home the phone rang. One of the cashier girls had come down with a cold and I was to cover the last of her shift. It was two thirty when the operator called, and she had I only had to work till five, so I went in and worked, but as it turns out, company policy is that an incomplete shift can be no shorter than three hours, so I was there till a quarter to six. Could have been worse. The company was desperate for red cards, promising us five dollars a card and telling us to offer guests a free 2-litre soda. Whatever.

I close at the service desk tonight. But I don't go in till later.

Del, glad you're having fun!

next Friday - as in the week after the one we are currently in - I have off, although I work Saturday and I think I open, but it sounds like a blast and I think I shall - call me Wednesday or Thursday because I'm off on both days.
