It didn't occur to me to start some kind of crazy big countdown when it was T-minus 10 days to D-Day (due date). But today is 8 days till baby arrives (she's due a week from tomorrow).

8 days.

Chances are if I don't update next week, it means baby has arrived.

Check-in:

Spirituality! Has generally set in a positive pattern, if not a perfect trend upward. I figure as long as I do my best I'm doing pretty good. Getting into a routine of some shared practice with my husband has helped. I have to nudge and remind him a bit more, but we're getting better, so as a result I'm doing better, and I'm really pleased about it.

Fitness! The doctor says I need to walk two miles a day. Given how my body doesn't like me to walk much more than half a mile in one go, I'm not going on two-mile hikes on a daily basis, but I am making efforts to get up and move around. Especially as sitting still for too long results in an endless parade of contractions (Dr. Google says if exercise calms contractions down, they're the fake kind). Me getting out and walking helps, especially as I can take the dogs with me, but recently it's been quite rainy, and the risk of them yanking me off my feet is much increased, so I'm being cautious.

Tidiness! This continues to go really well, especially with this place being smaller and my husband helping out and also us having a set chore schedule.

The good:

Honestly, things have been pretty good. We accomplished a lot last week - we're moving forward both with the sale of our old house and the purchase of the new house. So much paperwork. So much e-signing. But it's happening!

We had dinner with some people from church on Tuesday night. They were super nice and the food was delicious (read: the best Mexican food available in this county, and possibly several adjoining counties). We also had dinner with some of Cody's new coworkers, which was good food, and one of them gave me a mother's day card and a gift card to a nearby ice cream parlor, which was incredibly sweet. I know Cody has been quite nervous about work, but his coworkers all seem like super awesome people.

We got the cars registered, and also applied for my new DL once I had paperwork in order.

We've also done fun things like go for long walks with the dogs, watched movies together, and played video games together (which we probably haven't done in years). I learned how to tat ice drops. I'm not great at it, but I understand the basic engineering, so hopefully I can improve from here on out. :)

Cody's first day at his new job is today! I know he was nervous, but so far he hasn't called me in a panic to help him make a break from the lab, so I'm calling that a good sign.

My mom gets into town tomorrow, and we can start the final preparations for baby girl's arrival.

Cody's mom sent us money so we could have a nice mother's day lunch, and that was pretty good. There's no good Mexican food around here, but good Italian food is plentiful, especially good pizza places, and we like that. One place in town sells lavender cannolis, which Cody thinks is weird, but they're delicious.

The bad:

Neither of us is sleeping well. Cody has to get up super early if he wants to get his morning run with the dogs in before work. I also just...don't sleep well. In addition to having to go to the bathroom a million times a night, sometimes fake contractions hurt a lot and wake me up. I had fake contractions for two hours straight yesterday because church - no matter how nice the people are - is endless sitting around.

Pretty much if I stay sitting down for too long, I get contractions. Not a fan. Especially if I'm writing or whatnot.

Also, I literally cannot tie my own shoes. Tried for ten minutes this morning and just gave up. Putting socks on is a struggle. Putting boots on is even harder (they zip up the sides, thankfully) because my feet are so swollen. My hands to continue to be stiff, but if I take a hot shower and also stay hydrated they loosen up a bit. (Thankfully I can knit, tat, write, and type with no pain - my hands just remain stiff).

It's so rainy here. Urgh. But there's a reason it's so green.

Overall, things here are far more good than bad.

Everyone thinks I'm not going to make it as a stay-at-home mom, but I think I've managed the transition pretty well. I no longer obsessively check my email. I don't fret about work. The house is clean and I actually cook, and also I get to indulge in my hobbies, like calligraphy and knitting and tatting. Also, I'm reading books again. Pretty sure I've read more books in the past month than I've read in the last two years combined (and not just professionally published books but also novel-length fanfic works). Of course, who knows what baby plus more sleep deprivation will do to my neat little productivity schedule, but so far so good!

Eight days. Here goes.

*continuies cheering you on*

*encourages you to get up during church* Does your church have a side room or set of rooms alongside the sanctuary? The churces I grew up in did, and at least one always 'belonged' to mothers and children.

This was my thought, also - could you sit in the back, so you could get up and move around along the back wall (or along the side, if you get a side-aisle seat), so you're *not* sitting nonstop for two hours? You will need to have that freedom to get up with Baby Girl once she arrives, anyway - if she needs a fresh diaper or just to be bounced more enthusiastically than you can manage while sitting, so if there's a place to sit to make getting up easier, might as well discover it now.

*thinking of you* <3
