Day 107: No pain, no gain...
Feb. 8th, 2005 12:28 pmI spent yesterday with every intention of going to class and coming home and hiding in my room reading - homework, pleasure, whatever, because reading is what I do. But then at about half past eight Del called and said she was going to the DDR thing. I had planned on it, then decided against it because it was cold and nasty and wet outside. I'm a coward in the cold, and plan my life according to the weather - since the weather screws me over and all. (Not that Schu isn't to blame for more than a few headaches.) So I grabbed a fiver out of my change jar; as luck would have it, BenTen had changed it in with me earlier in the day so she had some laundry quarters.
So we went, and there Scott was, in all his midget DDR glory, burning it up on the Pump it Up machine. Many DDR skills do crossover - you just have to know where the buttons are. My arrow reading has certainly improved since I've been playing by hand. But I'm still not great at it. I joined the dance competition thing for fun, and made it through the first couple of levels without problems. I was off my buttons on the last song, but it was fun all the same. I was so sure that the girl I paired up with for the first level - the best girl I've seen at pump it up in this town - would beat me, but I beat her, straight perfects where she had a couple of greats. Then I decided Del ought to learn the joy of DDR - especially with it being in a less public setting - and we stayed up to one AM playing. She got to see Scott play DDR, which he is infinitely best at. It was fun all around - more people came and played, and we talked.
We need to come up with some sort of taxonomy for geekdom - Star Wars or Star Trek? You know, stuff like that. And maybe compile a reading list of geekdom. I still have to read Hitchhiker, Del has never read Sandman, that sort of thing. Hmmm...think about it!
But when I woke up this morning my calves and feet were burning sore. Walking got them over it, but it was sore for a while. French was on today, and we got split into our oral presentation groups, and fortune is smiling on me because I'm grouped with Del again. I think the four of us (BenTen, Me, Rodney, Rowsdower) all went bonkers with Megan O'Sullivan showed up in Milton with her sprog. Yeah, that was just a little scary. And annoying. Class let out early, so BenTen and I decided to eat lunch in the cafeteria together. Now I have to get some homework reading done, so laters, all!
