Day 1359: Ask me how

This week started slow and ended hard. First day of the week? Nothing on the calendar. Most of my colleagues were at a one-day conference I didn't attend, so pretty much nothing was scheduled, and so I was the only lawyer at the office for most of a day, doing paperwork.
Tuesday was a full day of conference. It was the kind where we stay in the same room the entire time, and that was rough. Started early, ended at five, but the drive was an hour each way. I was sitting at a table with colleagues and friends, and one guy has ADD (he admits it himself) so he kept a saucy running commentary. I have new respect for defenders. Their work is hard. What they do is so rough. Only one of the speakers felt useful to me, but I am pleased to say that I was able to use what she taught me immediately, and that was good.
Wednesday was half a day of conference, half a day of court. Made for a long day overall. Was shattered by the end of it. Also there was just one really useful speaker who I enjoyed. One speaker had useful information but mismanaged her time. Another speaker was entertaining. I've seen him before. And then court was just...long. A mother relapsed on opiates. Her baby ended up being removed. She cried a lot. It was sad.
Thursday was a bit more of a chill day. Dental checkup in the morning. Things are going well, but I have to ease up on the soda. Court ended up running long because of other hearings. Day ended up going longer than I expected, and Cody and I ended up eating out instead of cooking like we'd planned. I spent the evening baking bread. Sourdough from scratch is an intense process. Prepped the starter on my lunch break, spent three hours after work folding and hydrating the dough, then let it proof for a couple hours, then baked it, but I hear the result was well worth it, so I am pleased. It did look pretty when I took it out of the oven.
Friday was also supposed to be chill but it ran long, because a complicated hearing was interspersed between mediations and other hearings, so my day ended long, and I was tired. Cody and I ended up staying in and being chill.
Saturday we'd planned on going to a barbecue thing up north but both of us were just too beat, so we ended up staying around the house and chilling. Did some target shooting - I am learning to be Cody's spotter - and knitted, wrote, read. One story had been given me fits, was like pulling teeth, was almost a month past its soft deadline, but I got it done and then my friend did the beta, so I had to do a read-through before it went live. Cody and I watched the fights for the first time in a while, and that was fun.
Today was pretty chill. Stake conference, laundry, k-drama, knitting, some time with the neighbors. Our elderly neighbor let us have some produce out of his garden. We spent time with some of our other neighbors, talking and laugh. I am constantly amazed at how awesome the ladies in my neighborhood are. I really don't want to have to move from here...
This coming week will be long. Court literally every day of the week, plus tatting class in the evenings. Also dance is starting up again, and I'm pretty darn excited for that.
Goals:
Fitness! Better but not great. Early mornings to get up to the conference made it rough. Also I've decided that walking two dogs at once is just...nope. Bad for my back. Plus Cody is running Ivy in the mornings, so I don't have to feel bad about only walking Dingo.
Spirituality! Better but of course there's still room for improvement. Overall positive, though.
Work! I still need to study better for that test but I learned good things in training and am doing my best to implement them, so that's a good sign.
Writing! I am so behind but I really don't even care, for reals. Been enjoying Kdrama a lot, and I think it's helping my brain. I did, however, throw a bunch of words at an original fic. I ran the idea past Cody and he liked it, so that was nice. We shall see how it all goes! I wonder if I should take a break from fanfic for a bit and just...see where writing takes me.
Here's to surviving this week. We can do it!
