Man. I've been pretty lame about updating my journal this year. Seriously, seriously lame.

Before I get to the big news - the first day of my last semester of law school - I need to backtrack.

So...Saturday. Drove home to hang out with my parents. Saw my sister's old high school best friend Nicole, who is back from the marines. Got to say goodbye to Audi the chihuahua, which was nice, because I love her a lot even though she's a spoiled princess. Then the family and I drove down to Vegas. We crashed at a Holiday Inn in Henderson, went to a Sweet Tomato at dinner. To my mother's annoyance and chagrin, I finished off the last three-hundred odd pages of a law novel in a single sitting. Good novel. Don't know if I'll read the author again, but it was quasi-research for a novella (rapidly approaching a novel) I'm writing. We went to bed early (we watched a programme about the world's cutest dogs, which was pretty heartwarming) and then woke up early to go to the airport.

I said goodbye to my parents and faced down the additional security which was, honestly, not that additional. When I got to the checkin desk, the lady informed me that I was on standby. Even though I had bought the tickets back in August. I was peeved, and when I got to the gate I watched everyone board before me, and then they called my name and gave me a seat. I was seated next to a disgruntled elderly couple, but I ignored them in favor of reading Holly Black's Tithe which was pretty awesome. We made it to Denver in good time, but then I had to haul all the way across the terminal to catch my next flight.

Finished the Holly Black book and wrote a little bit, slept a little bit. Made it to Omaha in good time. Only to discover that the airline had misplaced one of my suitcases. They told me it would come in on a later flight and they'd deliver it to my apartment building, so Shaneen picked me up and I settled back into my flat, which was shiny and clean. Except I totally saw a mouse creeping about and trying to be all stealthy. I was not pleased. I called Angela and suggested she come over to watch Merlin 2x13 with me if she hadn't already seen it, so she agreed to supply pie if I supplied dinner. Which was fine. I lay down to take a nap - and I heard it. The familiar scrape of mouse claws on stainless steel. A mouse in my sink. I captured it - another cute baby one - in a plastic sack, had a brief chat with Neighbor Stacey, and then tossed the mouse down the rubbish chute. Then I stomped around angrily, laid out some poison. I noticed that the poison tray near the fridge has been half-eaten, so that means there are dying mice in my flat. No bueno. Nevertheless, Angela and I enjoyed Merlin, made plans to catch Legally Blonde the Musical in May, and plans to hang out on our last two days of freedom.

On Monday I was full of useless other than buying my books. I read and got caught up on The Dollhouse and Criminal Minds and took a nap and then Angela and I watched House together, which was awesome. I stayed up way too late writing the annual law school novella that I should not be writing (one for each year of law school), and then on Tuesday I did some actual homework. Angela and I went to see Leap Year which, while predictable, was pretty adorable and made me smile and also miss Ireland something fierce (and also redouble my ridiculous fangirl adoration of Colin Morgan). After the movie I finished my homework, unpacked my second suitcase (which was delivered), cleaned my flat (with the American Idol premiere in the background), got caught up on Castle, chatted to Daniel and Seirra, and went to bed. Far too late for my first day of school.

And here it is - my first day of my last semester of law school (hence the title of the journal entry, which is also a nod to the annual law school novella I should not be writing from 2L). I got to school at about 7:15, which meant that the bloody parking garage was full so I had to park outdoors and then leg it up to the school building. (On the way out the door this morning I realized I had forgotten my locker combination and I also needed to organize binders or folders for my other classes. I need to do some school organizing this weekend.) I did my reading for Church & State and chatted with friends in the corner (also took a nap) and had a couple of funny visits with Melilli (who said "thanks for sharing your office").

Church & State with Neumeister was kinda like a throwback to advanced con law, which was pretty darn hilarious. I shared my massive binder with the girl next to me (we had prosecution of criminal cases together) so she could see how his class works. I felt good about it, and now he smile at me, and I'm excited to do well on the Con Law portion of the bar. How do I know there's a Con Law portion of the bar? Because he handed out MBE pamphlets. First class on the first day of law school and I get MBE pamphlets. Hello minor panic attack.

After that I had lunch, a chance to goof off and work on the novel-that-should-not-be. I talked to friends, joked with Melilli and the gang, and then it was off to the legal clinic. I'm working with Jenifer (from Witness Exam, who is not to be confused with Jenny from the corner) and we're team 2. We have cases and hearings and will do intake and I'm excited to get 3L certified and be a real lawyer, and it'll be pretty cool. A lot of work - I have to get 232 hours this semester - but definitely satisfying. I'm working with people I either know or like or both, and it's going to be great experience. My foot-loose and fancy free 3L schedule is suddenly not quite as footloose and fancy free, but that's all right. Busy is better than bored, after all. I scheduled in bellydancing, which starts tomorrow night and for which I am very excited.

Man. I'm going to be crazy busy. Now I have to figure out how to schedule me in some crafting time, ne? Most likely on the weekends. I write when I can, in my pockets at school, so I really need to start getting disciplined about my routine. I am crazy excited, though. Lawyer-dom, here I come!

Tonight I'm going to Old Chicago and then a Creighton game with Amber and the gang, which will be good times, a great start to the semester. And then I shall start being a law student in earnest.
