Day 800: the conundrum of coming home

So...I am home. In Omaha. It's official - Omaha is home now. Summer vacation was good. It kicked off with a mini-Black Dog reunion at my place, and oh, but I do love my pack. Love them immensely. I saw Curry and Benten and Sei, and it was like getting my soul back.
On the road with my parents was also for the win. Most of the details belong to Tom. Anyone who remembers my tenure in Petersen's class will know who Tom is.
Suffice to say, I saw the great plains, a portion of America that I don't know well. I went to a rodeo and saw the Top of the World, went to Yellowstone and saw Old Faithful, went into South Dakota and saw Mount Rushmore. I talked to my parents and Bob and Faye (my parents' Snowbird friends who went on vacation with us the summer before law school started for 1L), and I learned new things, saw new things, ate new things. I had fresh air and early nights, early mornings and lots of fun. I had history and philosophy, literature (read four books) and music, and I am relaxed.
Coming home is always a conundrum. For the first ten minutes back in my apartment, it felt like I had been gone for a long time, that coming home was a relief. And then...after my parents went grocery shopping and I ran around putting things away, it was as if I had never left.
And then I checked my email and saw all the things I missed out on, that I have to catch up on, and thus, the rat-race begins.
Also, I have the most ridiculous teen-girl fan-crush on Robbie Moffatt.
Ever.
Here comes law school!
