Friday was a pretty awesome day. I went to school dressed up so I could give my audition speech. I did homework first, then checked out a study room in the library. They're soundproofed, so even though people could see me pacing back and forth, they wouldn't be harassed by me repeating my audition closing over and over again. Angela was nice enough to come and listen, so I got some good feedback. I made it through classes, and then I made it through my audition. Will M. showed up randomly at the law school, as he and Ryan were headed for a YSA Halloween dance down in Kansas City. We talked for a bit. The school has been evil hot lately, so I ended up taking a nap on the couch in my corner before Angela returned. And then we went shopping. Our attempt to find me a coin jangly thing for bellydancing down in Old Market failed. So we hit up the craft store instead. Angela was full of awesome, helping me pick out ribbon and yarn and other things. And I was totally within budget. After we got me a whole boatload of yarn, we went hunting for some other place that might sell a coin jangly thing. We totally failed. So we went to Costo (thanks to the nifty Costco card my parents left me) and had pizza. Then we wandered around Barnes and Noble for an hour before we hit the theaters and watched The Secret Life of Bees. Which was AWESOME and so many people should go see it. I loved it. Oddly enough, the character who stuck with me most was T. Ray (I totally knew it was Paul Bettany but his awesome Southern accent totally threw me) and his very last line broke my heart. Holy Hell. As it was Halloween night, everyone else was either getting drunk at parties or escorting their children around town for the sugar-high of the year, so the theater was pretty much ours. Then I came home and worked on Mom's scarf until I was tired. Then I slept.

This morning I was out of bed by half seven to go volunteer at the Open Door Mission near the airport. It was a unique experience, rather like working retail the day after Thanksgiving, I think. We started off getting clothes out on the racks, so there was a whole lot of tossing clothes at each other and tripping over hangers. Dean Dallon accidentally shoved a pile of clothes onto my head, and promptly exclaimed, "That was a tort. But not an intentional one." Sadly, only the law school few laughed. (He dressed up as a cowboy for Halloween the day before - Kent was Blackacre, and that was full of law school awesome - and Professor Mangrum told us Dallon looked like Woody from Toy Story. So we all had to go look.) There was some fun sorting through socks, scarves, hats, and gloves, and then the doors open, and people rushed in. I alternated between keeping the aisles clean and clear of debris (i.e. spilled clothes and hangers) and flattening boxes in the back. It was simple work, using a knife to cut the tape on the boxes, then collapse them down for the compacting machine. My work partner was a thirteen-year-old boy (who needed some serious courses in knife etiquette) who thought I was barely a year older than him. It was hard to talk to him, and I don't know why. I attempted to relate to him as if he were my age, but that failed quickly, and all subsequent attempts to relate to him by remembering what I was like at his age failed as well. Once my shift was up, I headed to school. I spotted Sylvia while I was on my way to the Harper Center, and I got food from the Brew Jay for the first time (it was good food, too) and then we worked on interrogatories. I came home, did laundry, and crocheted. With Cowboy Bebop and Dead Poets Society in the background. Two different but totally awesome movies.

All in all, my weekend has been full of cool. I talked to Mom a lot, I had good times with Angela, and I got to relax and crochet. I finished mom's scarf and now I'm working on Marty's hat.

I'm really behind on my web life, but I don't feel so bad about that (other than the writing). I am really sorely tempted to just let the whole web nonsense (other than writing) roll over and die so I can concentrate on other stuff. In fact, that sounds like an excellent idea. I've been failing at other areas of life, so I should do better to succeed.

Holy crap, I am a crocheting fiend.
