So...life has been pretty tame lately. Work is slow because it's the holiday season, so I've been scrambling for weird projects to do, teaching Cory about the hilarious joy that is Jenny Thunder, hanging out with my husband, and trying to get things done for the holidays, like that novel I'm supposed to finish, and presents, and that children's book I've been meaning to write.

I ended up writing said children's book at the library while I was waiting for my belly dance class to start. I stopped by to look at some children's books, then sat down and wrote. Thank heavens for free wifi and the wireless keyboard my husband got me. I passed it by my sister, who liked it, and I passed it by my husband, who edited it in exchange for me editing his personal statement for his application to Harvard. Obviously my family life is happening.

Thanksgiving was this week. My contribution was mochi and pumpkin pie. I have missed mochi, and I am kind of obsessed with red bean paste, because I keep eating it out of the can instead of making more mochi with it. Thanksgiving was eating lots of food, watching too much My Name is Earl, and hanging out with the family. Friday was a late night at the shop, me crocheting and tatting till I thought my hands were going to fall off, eating junk food, and laughing myself silly at Jensen Ackles on season 4 of Smallville (and also remembering my undying adoration for Michael Rosenbaum, who is a very silly, campy man unless he's playing Lex Luthor, and then he's kind of morally ambiguous and generally badass, or perhaps just bad). We slept in super late on Saturday, and then there was more shopping, forging and crafting. I worked on Friday, and the office was dead, so we ended up throwing things at each other, debating the relative merits of Joss Whedon, and laughing at the Wonder Twins. Saturday I bought my mom a new Kindle, because hers is dying (but we're taking it anyway so Cody will read on something that is not my iPad upon which my literary greatness happens), and we got lucky. Found a clerk who wasn't busy and got our deal done, and with a discount, too. Win! Then we spent way too long wandering the aisles at the army surplus store and making plans to update our emergency preparedness kits and musing at all the fun stuff to be had there. They sell excellent quantities of jewelry-gauge wire, which kind of makes me miss my chain mail days, and how sad is that?

Then we hung out at the shop, and Christmas present making continued, and then I was up till unholy o'clock (read: 5 a.m.) on a writing binge like I haven't been on since before I was married (I had a headache, so I drank caffeine; admittedly, a poor choice).

Today I felt lousy and sick and basically slept through church, which would have been my first Sunday at our new ward. The highlight of my day was talking to my mom on Skype and showing her her new kindle. We're hanging out at Cody's house. I'm in the den while his friend Pat, who is descended from a long line of classical pianists, serenades us.

Cody and I have decided to try and have a kid. Now, whenever I feel nauseous or headachy, every woman I know asks if I might be pregnant. Don't know yet. It's a bit soon to be taking a test. But the other night Cody surprised the hell out of me when he was researching on his laptop. Usually he's looking up knife-making techniques, seeing how he's making a bunch of knives to give as Christmas gifts (yes, one year we're going to send out a Christmas card with just a picture of our empty garden on the front, because we are a family of ninjas). He wasn't looking that up, though - he was looking up the best and safest ways for a baby to sleep.

Seriously.

Then again, I was looking up the best ways to feed a baby (purely for novel research, you realize) so, yeah. So...we're both terrified of having kids. But we're about as ready as we're ever going to be. I'm going to have to troll etsy some more and look out for some ridiculously cute baby things to crochet, like diaper covers with monkey tails and matching baby beanie hats with monkey ears.

So...life. The holidays. Here it is. I know what I'm going to get and/or make for everyone. Now I just have to get it done in time.
