The answer to my life is sunlight.

Getting out in the sun, getting fresh air - that makes me happy. It makes me feel better, and also I like being warm. I keep telling Cody I'm genetically predestined to despise the cold and snow. Ergo, I am genetically predestined to be very happy in the sun.

So happy I am, because after the second session of conference we walked down to the playground at the elementary school and played on the swings. While I was there I met a single mom with two little boys (she was babysitting a third baby) who told me about growing up in a house with nine kids and being the kid who helped raise all her younger siblings. It sounded like a tough childhood, and she admitted she had no real teenage years because she was the junior mom, but I watched her with her boys and she seemed like a really good mom - fair, disciplined, generally a good person. One of her boys had me trained to push him on the swing - he hadn't yet learned the basic physics of a swing and couldn't keep it going himself - and Cody played tag with the boys.

The woman commented that her boys didn't get much male contact, so they drank it up when they could get it, and I felt kind of bad for her, but she seemed like a really good mom. (Also, I realized I probably slept through the talk about single moms.) Cody looked like he had fun with the boys. As with our usual MO at playgrounds, Cody did all sorts of ninja stunts on the playground equipment that led to a rash of younger boys imitating, likely to their near-death.

It's official.

Cody's going to be a pretty awesome dad.

And now that spring is here, life is going to be so much better.

Also, my sister is super fantastic. I've been writing (or was writing, and am now wishing I had time to write) a novel about angels, and my sister agreed to draw some of the characters for me. She sent me the first batch today, the human girls, and they look absolutely fantastic. My sister is an artistic genius, and I am grateful for her help. If my friends and I ever achieve our pipe dream of opening our own publishing house, I would totally recommend taking my sister on as a contract artist. Between us, we know lots of super talented writers and artists, and we'd be crazy not to have my sister as one of the bunch, because she can draw in so many different styles. I'm super excited to see how the angels and boys turn out.

And now...I should go grocery shopping and let my husband get ready for the priesthood session of conference.

Our old Relief Society General Presidency just got released. I have fond memories of all three ladies since they were in charge when I first joined Relief Society, and I'm going to miss them, but I am looking forward to getting to know the new ones.
