Day 761: It's About Time
May. 16th, 2009 11:41 pmFriday was a good day. Angela and I went shopping for food supplies to make her birthday dinner. We also hunted for bean bag chairs, to no avail, so I'm going to have to try again. Angela got her driver's license renewed - it would have expired on Sunday on her birthday - and then we went to see Angels and Demons with Dan, which was good times indeed. Heh. Ewan McGregor as a priest. I liked the movie better than The Da Vinci Code, but then I liked the book better than the Da Vinci Code. Go figure. I spent the rest of the night writing and managed to post a sixth chapter of a novella I owe someone from a long time ago.
Today was...well. I got up and set about cooking. Partway through, I realized I had no chives, so I ran to the grocery store to get some. Then I realized I had no garlic, so I had to go back for that too. I'm getting pretty smooth at handling that SUV. (Some crazy old Chinese lady stepped out into the street randomly yesterday, and I braked hard and managed not to hit her, but she was insane! It had been raining, the street was wet, I was doing the speed limit, and - wabam! In the street. She didn't even cross, either, just stepped back onto the sidewalk. The law student in me said 'she gets at least 51% comparative negligence', which is horrible of me, but really, no reasonable person would leap out into traffic randomly after it had been raining all morning!) I took care of the marinade first, although it takes for freakin' ever to grate fresh ginger. It felt like I'd been over-gripping my bow, which kinda sucked, but I did it. I cooked the rice, and the vegetables, and the bacon, and did my best to get it all together even though I have no wok and lost a little bit of rice ever time I went to stir it. Oh well. I also tipped the bowl of chopped chives, so the onion just sort of exploded. Everywhere. I was freaked out, to say the least. So I called Nate and told him I'd be a little late.
I picked him up, and we went to Amber's house (after I got my kitchen cleaned, because I'm enough of my mother's daughter that I couldn't leave my kitchen dirty) and we met up with Amber and Kara. The actual spring fling place was sort of lame, so we went to get ice cream and then just walked around the neighborhood enjoying the cool old houses. It's like an upscale Cedar City neighborhood on a bit of a hill. I like it, and it might be fun to live there some day. Nate and I talked - he likes lilacs and wants to have a huge garden when he finally finds a place to settle. After we got done with our ice cream and our walk, Nate and I headed back to our neighborhood, and we ended up talking for...several hours. On his front porch. It was nice, because we were out in the sun. We talked about video games, dating, Munchkin, writing, and a whole bunch of stuff. He's fun to talk to, and there were no awkward silences, and...yeah. Good times.
I ate food, and then me, Nate, and Will went to Ryan, LeAnn, and Jessica's graduation party. Jessica was the first to depart, followed by LeAnn, but Ryan stuck around till the end. We played Rock Band up on the big projector, and we played ping pong, foosball, and pool. It was good times. There were pictures and hugs, goodbyes and good lucks, and a bunch of other oddly nostalgic moments.
The others split to go see Wolverine (which I've already seen) and I came home. I'm oddly tired.
Nate's nice. He'll be a good friend.
