Day 730: Court of Public Opinion
Mar. 4th, 2009 07:27 pmSo it's been a while since I updated, probably mostly because I was, well. Sick. I made it through most of church on Sunday before I retreated home to build a nest of blankets on my couch and attempt to sleep off the plague that had come over me. Unfortunately for me, the home teachers came. According to Ryan, I sound very sad when I'm awakened unexpectedly. You'd be sad too - it was a comfy nest and a much-needed nap. But it was the last time he and James would come, as James is getting married. After they left there was a whole lot of me, well, watching Merlin (it's clear that my taste for blondes was a delusion and I am all about boys who are dark-haired, skinny, and smart, although the pretty blonde boy in the armor was a nice bonus).
Monday I was a moronic, tissue-consuming zombie all through school. I wanted very desperately to skip FHE but I went for the lesson, which was awesome, because Matt is a pretty cool guy. Afterwards me and Angela went to Amber's new place and just hung out, having girl talk and debating the merits of our favorite TV shows.
Tuesday I was feeling a little better and mostly spent my time freaking out about today's trial. I got good homework done and worked hard, but it was good times. Xiao Qian and I took an emergency trip to Best Buy because Xiao Qian needed a new power cord for her laptop, and then I went to belly dancing, which was awesome and good times and a nice stress reliever so I could get my opening argument written.
Today was - tense, to say the least, and Ryan was right - for no good reason. I was a zombie all through T&E because, well, it's T&E with Lord V, but we were entertained to see, in our textbook, a reference to a law review article written by Lord V. He's a bit of a pedant, but he's at least earned his reputation. As an academic, less as a pedagogue. I did my best to keep my head on during ST, but that class is killer. All through lunch Kim and I hashed out and panicked about our trial, and we ended up skipping BA to get our game faces on. Kim was in the library getting her examinations in order, and I was hashing over my opening statement. Ryan came over to talk to me, because he did the competition last year, and it was good talking to him - he's pretty good at chilling me out.
Once I made it through my opening statement and got into my stride during direct examination, I was feeling pretty darn awesome. It was pretty relaxing, and I held onto my composure during objections and whatnot. All in all, a pretty good first trial. I have a feeling that there are lawyers out there who would do much, much worse.
The second trial was a bit...hard. Mostly because the examinations were all so long, and I kept spacing out and falling asleep during the plaintiff's case in chief. And I hate being a witness - it's all about being a lawyer. But it was a long, long day. I am glad to be home, and I don't care if CM is a rerun tonight - I need it.
