Day 719: Of Hearts and Wrenches
Jan. 25th, 2009 06:12 pmSo it always ended up being longer than I expected between journal updates. I've been doing my best to get caught up on Heavy Noir, Master&Madness, and Blue Logos, but I sort of fail. I'm almost right up to par on M&M. If I keep doubling up on HN, I'll catch up eventually. I may forever be behind on Blue Logos, though once I wrest my muse back under control I shall do my best there.
Thursday was an interesting day. Now that I've had all my classes, I've decided to switch my free afternoon from Tuesdays to Thursdays. On Thursday I finally had my evening class - Trial Practice - and even though the professor let us out early, I was sort of mentally exhausted anyway, and there's no way I can stay at school all day on Thursdays from seven to nine and not go nuts. On the other hand, I can totally pull a seven to five on a Tuesday and use it to get homework for Thursday done, which will be good. My Trial class is taught by none other that the Douglas County attorney. When he first walked in, I thought he looked familiar, and then I realized why - I'd seen him on TV when they were interviewing him about the Amber Harris murder, which he tried. Wow. It's sort of like learning from a celebrity. I guess Jason wasn't kidding when he said Kleine was one of the best trial attorneys in the city. I did not know that Professor Melilli, in his ten years as a federal prosecutor, only lost two cases. Two.
Hardcore.
Friday was something of a total loss as I completely and utterly failed to pay attention in T&E. Instead I worked on novel timeline business. Also, we're a bit behind in Secured, which is probably the most boring subject matter ever, perhaps more boring than Civ Pro. I haven't fallen asleep over a textbook like that since, well, first year. On Friday I did absolutely nothing useful after school except for, well, going home, crocheting, tatting, and nerding my heart away on my couch - as well as finishing the first season of Alias. Doggone it. I forgot that Sydney and Vaughn don't kiss until the end of second season. Grrrr. But I have patience. I'll get there. I didn't get to bed, sadly, until nearly four because I was watching Alias.
And then I hauled myself out of bed at half past seven to get to the temple for baptisms, because Saturday morning, right? Oh so wrong. Next Saturday morning. But I went and tagged along with a group of kids who'd driven two hours from Missouri to put in some good service, and I was pretty chill for the rest of the day. Afterwards I came home, took a nap, did some random chore-like things, watched some Alias, and then took off to Becca's bridal shower. I've only been to two before - one, rather frighteningly, in high school, thrown after policy debate rehearsals in the debate room, and my friend Emily's. So we had snacks, played some party games, and Becca opened presents. I'd tatted her a white heart with the inner border in blue and pink which, while lends itself to stereotypes, I reckoned she'd like, and she seemed to, so that's what counts. She modeled her wedding dress, which was absolutely lovely. After the shower I went home and attempted to do homework - and failed something awful - and then I went to Ryan's. For the play reading. It was funny, restoration comedy, and he's a very talented writer, totally spot-on with humorous dialogue (I could see his own sense of humor in there). I have realized, I suppose, for what should be the final time, that it totally is him and Brielyn. That didn't stop the monkeys in my blood from beating at my heart with a fistful of wrenches. I ended up staying up ridiculously late listening to maudlin boyband music and writing maudlin letters. Sorry to whoever gets those. I did discover that no one uses the gym late at night and I can go down there with my iPod and practice my mad bellydancing skills, which is good exercise.
Church was good today, if a little empty due to snow, and we're holding break the fast next week in spite of the superbowl.
I wrote letters to people, and they're all ready to go. I'm writing a missionary again, but this time it's a sister missionary, and I'm pretty excited. She's going to temple square, which should be pretty cool. I talked to my mom and then Ryan and James came for home teaching.
And now I'm holed up alone in my apartment in my nice church clothes. I think I should change out of them before I attempt to do any work on my armor. Or whatever I do. I keep telling myself I'll work on armor and end up crocheting. Although I prepped a whole load of rings today. We'll see what happens. I really, really need to beta a chapter for Michelle as well as get caught up on some writing, but that's that.
I started working on that journal Ericka made me for Christmas. I'm going to pour my heart and soul into it.
