Day 710: Christmas
Dec. 25th, 2008 11:44 pmOnce a year this I ought to have an entry with this title.
Today is Christmas. I loved it. Yesterday was long and arduous - we put in some tiled floor at a renter's house. Seriously. On Christmas Eve, I know. But it was the only chance we had, so we went in the morning, worked, had lunch (I walked both the dogs at the same time, which was an adventure and a half), and ran errands. I also visited Aunt Marge. She gave me crocheting tips and we talked. After supper we went back to the house to put in the tile grout, then watched TV and went to bed.
I stayed up late in an effort to write some stories for Christmas fic exchanges. I had inspiration for one, but sleep overcame me. I felt awful, because my parents had to get up early this morning to put the finishing touches on the tile floor, but they let me sleep in. After I woke, we had crêpes, the traditional Christmas morning meal in my family, and then we opened presents. Mom fretted because she was worried that I wouldn't have that many presents to open, as I'd opened so many of them during finals, but I don't know what she was worried about - I had more presents than Dad, probably.
In childish form, here is ( the list... )
I gave my mom her birthday present - I crocheted a stuffed, three-legged chihuahua. She nearly cried when she opened it and saw what it was. I figured she'd want a little memory - one that even will fit in her apron pocket when she cleans. She was surprised that I'd sprung for a perfume-lotion combo, and was surprised that I'd finished the hat and scarf I'd started crocheting for her before she left home. Reports from friends were that they liked the gifts I sent, which made me happy. Also that the gifts to Utah recipients made it in time as well, from what I heard.
We had Aunt Ruth and her husband Clyde over for supper, as well as Brother Peck, whose wife is in the hospital. It was awesome food. I had some stuff I've never had before, like sweet potatoes with walnuts, pumpkin pie with mince meat, and Yule Log. I ate waaaaay too much. We tried to go to the movies, but the show we wanted to see was sold out, which made me sad. But we got to spend the evening relaxing - we watched Foyle's War, Black Adder, Sherlock Holmes, and some Poirot. I also finished the blanket I made for Weber's impending baby. It's pretty cute, if I do say so myself.
All in all, it's been an awesome Christmas spent with family.
I'm glad to be home and cannot wait to see my friends.
