Day 608: Unexpectedly long silence
Apr. 12th, 2008 09:17 pmI've been even more of a dirty slacker than before, which is unsurprising to some, I'm sure. I got my paper done on Thursday, and that's really all that matters. I didn't work on it nearly as hard as I did on the first one and expect to receive a correspondingly worse grade for my efforts, but at this point I really am beyond caring. For a moment or two there I was pretty jazzed up for oral argument on Tuesday, but I've slumped into je m'en fiche again. Friday was awesome. I got free breakfast and lunch just for sitting around, being myself, being proud to be a law student, and putting out my sales pitch about why other students should spend horrific amounts of money putting themselves what I put myself through this year. Breakfast sales went better than lunch sales for me, but that is that. I got free food, and really good food at that, and so I didn't lose out. It's been miserably cold and wet here, and it doesn't help that the roof at school is leaking. Someone picked a very inopportune time to repair the roof, and now it's leaking. Figures. Instead of doing homework Friday afternoon I watched some more Crow. Saw episodes I know I've never seen before - I never did see the end of the series, and I'm pretty darn close. I'll finish the series tonight, and then I'll prep for finals.
For dinner I had people over. At first I thought it would just be the sister missionaries, but it ended up being the sisters plus Justin, Trevor, and Dustin. So I threw in two chicken and mushroom pies instead of one, made some more mashed potatoes, and that was that. Admittedly, the black eyed peas got a bit burnt on the bottom, but they were good. The pie went over well, and Dustin toasted off the potatoes, so I must not have done that badly.
I spent the rest of the night watching the Crow and working on that art project I picked up so I could make presents for my girls back home.
Today was a good day. I slept in, then went to a baptism. We'll be having two more this month. The ward is growing, and it's pretty awesome. It's always cool to see. Elder Reynolds did the musical number. He's such an amazing musician. I know I've pretty much stopped buying CDs, but he's gonna go home and become famous, and I'm gonna be there buying his albums every time they come out. Afterwards there were refreshments, some of which were homemade by Sister Dallon, so of course they were delicious. Only two boys from our ward showed up - one of whom was conducting - and the rest were girls from our ward and other wards. I know lots of people work on Saturdays. More boys than girls work, I guess.
Afterwards I came back to my place and just hung out, getting things done and watching more Crow. I got a letter from Schu, which seriously made my day. I opened the box my mom sent me in the mail. It was full of all that awesome quirky free stuff that companies give out at business conventions. I'm pretty sure she picked it up when she went to that conference with my dad, but it's cool. I got a load of pens, which always makes me happy. Because a lot of the companies are Japanese, I got cool stuff like some giant foam d6s, a sumo wrestler, and a plastic giraffe, and light-up bouncy balls. Seriously cool stuff that was treasure when I was a kid. It made me smile.
I also went out on a date tonight, with James, one of the new guys in the ward. He asked me out over facebook, which was weird, but since he's pretty shy I let it go. He called me later to get some details and ask again properly, saying he finally found my number. I figured, since he's so shy and I'm horrific chatterbox, that I was a buffer date, and I totally was, but that's okay. I had a good time. We went to Tandoori restaurant - he'd never had Indian food before and felt brave (I think he thought I was Indian) and then just wandered around Old Market, poking through stores at cool stuff. We looked at novelty gifts, random CDs, and had a good time. Looking at quirky stuff makes for good conversation. He told me that he's not good at the dating thing and that the other guys in the priest quorum recommended me as a date because I'm easy to talk to, so I know I was playing buffer girl, but I really didn't mind. I had a good time. It was simple and fun.
But also very cold, and now I'm very glad I'm back in my warm cozy flat.
Also, I love my online RPs.
