Day 600: Another day, another headache
Mar. 30th, 2008 10:29 amSo I made it through this week on obscenely small amounts of sleep. I spent most of my time working on the motion brief of suck. Mostly on Wednesday, the day before it was due. The commons was shut down, which always ticks me off immensely, because then study space is reduced and everyone crowds for the same five tables in the back hallway. Luckily for me I was at school early doing my memo while everyone in my class was sleeping in and ignoring the Eighth Circuit Court proceedings. So I got good headway on the memo, but then classes were shifted around so they were later in the day, which wasn't so cool. I spent Thursday working on the memo as well. Barely made it through Civ Pro, which sucked hardcore. I've just been tired all week, and I guess I'm getting a little sick of stringing myself out on no sleep and hanging on to my sanity by a bare thread. Friday morning study group was great. Jason brought treats, and Liz was there (most everyone else was not) but we worked hard and got a lot done. I enjoyed it a lot. I'm going to start foregoing briefing in classes so I can start prepping for finals. Three weeks out from finals and all, and I need to get going. Especially since Civ Pro is the first (and my worst). We had double Con Law to make up for, er, something. We're going to be having double K and double Torts sometime as well to make up for the Supreme Court business on Thursday, which I'm not looking forward to (the double classes, not the Supreme Court - that'll be cool). Friday was a long day, so I skipped out right after classes and ran errands. Picked up a birthday present (and spent far too long at the book store) and bought a treat to take to break the fast (after I make it, that is). Jason and Ella came over to play video games, and after they left - which was around eleven - I stayed up to read K and torts.
Saturday was long. It was alternately mind-numbing and awesome. I ended up hitching a ride up to Lincoln with Dustin, Trevor, and Justin. We had breakfast, and someone had brought rock band. Which is seriously awesome. I can only sing one song, which would be, of course, BOC's Don't Fear the Reaper. But I was all right on the drums and even managed to survive a song on medium. Enter Sandman on medium guitar is all kinds of not my friend. It was fun. We had a devotional, and then a tour of the Memorial Stadium. I ended up ditching out early because, as everyone knows, American Football is really not my thing. I teamed up with Justin, Trevor, Dustin, and Julie for the service project, which was picking up trash in a neighborhood. We made a game of it to see who could find the most awesome trash. We had a running count of minibar booze bottles. Poor Jason kept finding used condoms and empty condom packets. (Why would people throw those out on the street?) One girl found the plastic and glass logo thing for a Ford truck. I think Justin won - he found a toilet seat. Seriously.
After the service project - which didn't take four hours like everyone said it would - we headed back to the institute for rock band, air hockey, and other distractions. I felt like I should've brought homework, but I took a nap instead. Then we headed over to the stake center to have dinner. Someone - probably someone who already had a boyfriend or girlfriend - decided it would be awesome if we did speed dating. I wasn't so cool with that. I like talking, and I like meeting new people, but frankly I'd be frightened if, after three minutes of idle chat, some guy decided we should go on a date. Granted, a date is not the same as dating, but seriously.
After that, we danced. For the first half it was lame, with a whole bunch of weird dance mixes. Sally and I were of the same opinion (and Sally's dad is a DJ) that a song was popular because people liked the whole song. So the dude should have played the whole song. They played a couple of good songs, some swing songs, some songs that were seriously nostalgic. I did more than one line dance, and of course the weird circle dance for Cotton Eyed Joe. Justin and Trevor had insisted they refused to dance, but I conned Trevor into dancing twice - Sally asked him - and I dragged poor Justin to his feet for the last dance, because everyone has to dance at least once. I mostly fell asleep in Dustin's car on the way home, and I stumbled up to bed. I'd been intending to down some caffeine and do Con Law, but it wasn't going to happen.
I've been tired all week, and while Saturday was a good day, by the end of it the compounding exhaustion was getting to me. It made me smile when I had a card from my mom in the mail.
Another good thing this week was that I got Aaron's address, so I can send him more snail mail.
And I get to get ready to sign up for fall semester classes. We'll see how that goes.
