This is the last sane weekend before finals. The next weekend will be a studying horror, I can feel it. But that's life. This is the last week of classes. I will survive.

I thought Beowulf was pretty cool. Had its weird moments, like the naked fight, and a naked CGI Angelina Jolie as Grendel's mom. For a moment there I thought I'd totally forgotten the story of the thing, because I read it in Brit Lit I with the awesome Dr. Tvordi, and I don't remember Grendel's mom being attractive. Or anyone doing anything hanky with her. But I could see Neil's magic touch, and I liked the unity between the two halves of the story that doesn't really exist in the poem. I've learned to appreciate movie versions of books as separate works of art. If the movie purports to be an exact replica of the book and is not, then yeah, I'll spaz, but a movie's just an interpretation, so there you go.

Saturday was great. I woke up, made bread rolls, and took off for Adam's house. I met his sister, her husband, and their two kids, who were very well-behaved for both of them being under the age of three. Adam's family is pretty cool. Poor Xiao Qian caught the stomach flu and couldn't go, but I covered for her all the same as far as providing bread rolls. Adam's mom is an excellent cook, and the food was great - turkey, stuffing, mash, carrots, green beans, and this awesome fruit salad of which I ate leftovers for dinner. Dessert was pumpkin cake, and then we played a take-home version of Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader? I won. Yay.

Afterwards we hung around and talked for a bit, then I went home. I checked on Xiao Qian to see if she was feeling better - took her some ginger ale and stuff - and we ended up talking for hours. She's an awesome person to talk to - I love talking to her. We really need to talk to together more.

Today was a great day. Church was fun. I got my visiting teaching interview done, and then Ryan, my only home teacher (because Scott turned 31 and "graduated" from the YSA ward) came to visit me. The intercom is still broken (I had Ryan test it) so I get to talk to management, but other than that it's all good. Ryan's a really great home teacher. Hopefully he'll get a new companion. I got all my Christmas cards done - some to mail, some to hand-deliver on the last day of finals - and also some letters and other things.

And I got to talk to my mom. And email my dad. Mom's having computer issues, so she and dad couldn't do their MSN chat thing. And somehow dad and I got our wires crossed about times, so there's that. We'll try to talk tomorrow, I think.

For those who care, chapters five and six of the murder mystery are lurking online, if you remember how to find them. If you don't, send an email my way and I'll hook you up.

Last week of classes, and then my first set of finals as a law student. Wow. This semester has gone so quickly.
