Day 463: Reversals
Apr. 24th, 2007 04:25 pmSo. Yesterday was a day of reversals. During the morning it rained to the point of flooding, but then the sky was blue by the time I was set to drive to Cedar for a graduation dinner.
I made it in good time, but as the others were away at a movie I just huddled on one of the sofas playing Dawn of Sorrow. Which almost made me late for dinner. Then I had to run across campus in my evil girly shoes, nearly break my neck running through the mud, and then almost get killed by the ballroom dance students in the hallway.
I ended up sitting with Dr. Calland, Dr. Simon, Dr. Tvordi, Greg, Rae, and her daughter Elizabeth. As it turns out, it wasn't the English Department's graduation dinner - although it could have been, poetically set on Shakespeare's birth/death day. Nope, it was some massive awards dinner for all of the HSS College students. Rae was there to get the Outstanding Literature Student award for the English Department. I was there because I was the Outstanding student in English overall.
Wow.
Dr. Tvordi introduced me. She - and some of the other professors I've had over the years through her - said some of the nicest things about be anyone has ever said. It was all the better because I respect my professors. (Er, most of them. One of them - he whose name dare not be said lest it induce hysterical laughter - I rather do not respect much at all, but he only said hi and then left me alone.) I got to talk to Dr. Tvordi, Rae, and Greg. I missed them all. It was a good night.
Rae was awesome enough to give me a ride back to the Manor where I'd parked my car, and then I hung out with Del and Sei to catch the second half of Heroes.
On the way back out of town I was pulled over by a cop for failure to yield. Yes, I can see your faces now. Well, I didn't get a ticket, because the cop said there were mitigating circumstances, i.e. a massive trailer parked on the corner of Harding West and 300 so I couldn't have seen him anyway, and I braked as soon as I saw him.
Also, I have no priors and also had my license, insurance and registration in perfect order.
Still, didn't like. I am, however, appreciating police officers' discretion much more. Would have sucked if he had to give me a ticket because the rules say do because, honestly, if I'm too short to see the end of my own car, how am I meant to see around a corner?
Whatever. I made it home safe.
Now I have to get grad school sorted out. ACK!
I'll be okay. I am excited for things this weekend. Who knows which campaign we'll play. I don't care which, since on the one hand I am ready to go again, we barely got Curry out of his box and he deserves to join our madness.
