Day 390: Running around and sitting down
Nov. 24th, 2006 10:49 pmFirst of all, to everyone, Happy Thanksgiving! I totally spaced calling people, though people called me. I am a Bad Person.
Yesterday was fun. I helped Mom rake leaves in the front yard. Well, we shook the leaves off the trees, then raked them up, then mowed up what we couldn't rake. I'm sure I cut quite the dashing figure, wearing mom's red apron with the mini-chihuahua in one pocket, dancing around to Namie Amuro and singing into a rake. We also painted things, like Christmas presents for my sister. It was a very productive day. I caught up on my word count somewhat. I have six days to make it fifty-thousand words. I think I can do it.
Dinner was for three, steak on a rock (really nice steak) with baked potatoes, Aunt Donna bean casserole (not actually made with Aunt Donnas) and portabello mushrooms. I also made pumpkin pie. This year I even remembered to put the sugar in. I can hear you all laughing now. No need to shoot me - Brad will do it for you. After dinner we watched Kate and Leopold. I think my dad actually liked it. He usually hates romantic comedies. I stayed up pretty late writing and whatnot.
Today I slept in awfully, till about ten, and then wrote some random stuff. I blame other people for my terrible character crush on Scott Summers. Who, Ericka, is NOT A TOOL! I wrapped presents, and hung out with the dogs all day. We also turned on Christmas music and proceeded to set up the tree. Mom says she misses real Christmas trees despite the horrible mess they made. Since I grew up with artificial trees (pine trees are pretty rare in the tropics) I don't mind the fake one. We decorated it with the red globes, and tinsel will have to come later. Mom and I even braved some of the Black Friday crowds in search of this year's supply of tinsel. Mom went nuts trying to buy some new stocking hooks, only to find the usual hooks stashed inside a stocking when she got home. I laughed. We listened to Christmas music, and it was lots of fun.
We had dinner - orange chicken - and watched TV, the History Channel Dogfights program, and then Numbers. One paper down, one paper and one annotated bibliography to go. I am now extra proficient in typing while I have a chihuahau on my lap, be it the Princess or the Mini One. The Princess also has a nice new jacket to keep her warm since the other one went the way of the Dodo sometime while I was gone. This one she is less likely to squirm out of, and is less dorky. No weird blue knitting.
Tonight I plan on watching Akira Kurosawa's "Ran" to get some inspiration for my Lear paper. And write Christmas cards. I'm behind on that. Can you see it? "Dear Megan and family, I wish you all a Merry Christmas - wow, that guy totally took a katana to the head!"
Things are going well. This break is doing me good.
