So I'm having some issues learning to say no. On Saturday night I worked with Chris over at the west house. He'd been larping, and apparently so had BenTen, but she didn't tell us. Anyway, that meant he was tired and I ended up doing all the work, and watching Alias all good and by my lonesome. Then on Sunday night Lindsay called be at about half nine and I ended up driving to Beaver. Again. I leave my cell phone in my pack in the back so I'm not tempted to answer it when I drive, and when I got into Beaver I heard it ringing. One was a call from Lindsay to make sure I'd made it okay, and another was from Del who was confused as to why I hadn't shown up for work. And another was from my boss, Daniel, but I didn't call him back. As it turns out, he wanted me to pick up his brother Hyrum, also my boss, on the way out of down and drive him up so we could work the shift together. It was awkward and weird. I did all the paperwork and all the checks, and damn near drove myself into eyestrain reading essays and counting all those damn words. Hyrum made a valiant stand at not falling asleep, but then he did so anyway. I was tired on the way home, so I pulled off at the rest stop and slept. And then some massive prat called my cellphone and woke me up, but by the time I'd gotten to the little electronic beast the caller had hung up. I was hacked off, to say the least. I made it home in all right time, slept a bit, and also helped Del babysit. She's a sight better at it than I am, seeing how I never babysat before (who needs to when all the other kids have nannies and maids to do it instead?) but I helped where I could. The girls aren't so bad, although their mother is a bit strict and thorough, and the brand of discipline I grew up with, while it made me disciplined, doesn't seem to fly in modern parenting, so I'm a bit at a loss as to how to handle these girls. Del does an awesome job.

Monday night - last night - I worked in the Big House with Josh. I watched Alias, wrote letters, finished crocheting one piece and decided to start on another because, well, why the heck not? I was pretty tired, and then there were some new girls that I didn't know, and I swear one of them was eyeing me up like she was figuring how best to kill me and hide the body, but either way I was damn tired.

As it goes, MacBeth Manor is a peaceful place, and the weird sisters who live therein really don't have too much going on. BenTen has a steady boyfriend, though their relationship is unconventional to say the least. Del has a guy she likes that she sees when she can but so far there is no dire committment occurring. So far. And I am single and more or less ruled by the bizarre sleep schedule required for work, and so I indulge in weird things like crocheting, making origami dolls, colorful calligraphy, and other crafty things that I must have picked up from my mother along the way. She didn't do the same crafts, but she did do all kinds of crafts that I can't do, so I'm starting my own set of delightfully time-consuming, slightly granny-like hobbies. But drama sort of has its own way of invading, and now Alison is crashing with us because Rodney broke up with her and she is getting a new place. I discover more and more that I'm a horribly unsympathetic person, and that I often cannot relate to people, that nothing I say will help, and that usually what I say will make things much worse. Del, on the other hand, is taking all of this very much in stride, and so I'm just along for the ride, here to help where I can (but there isn't much I can do) and just sort of being. I'm a bit nervous now, because Del's landlord doesn't know I live here, and thinks I'm just a frequent visitor or something, but such is life.

Life is pretty okay, though. I'm determined to finish something this summer, be it my novel or I don't know what, but I'm going to have to finish something or it will make me insane. There are many things I really want to buy, including the anime version of Mueyo Ken, some more Kabuki comics, and the pretty colored drafting ink that they sell at the art store. That may have to wait until I'm better at calligraphy, however.

Not that it will stop me from trying. I will save until I am next paid, I will.
