Day 313: Geeks just want to have fun
Jun. 21st, 2006 02:53 amLast night Ericka, Josh, and I were all on duty together, which was fairly fun. I worked with Ericka in the Big House, and Josh worked with some other staff at Next Door House. BenTen worked on her VtM Campaign, I worked on my orientation packet (which went oh so well for me), and then read. I'm almost done with Anansi Boys. It's funny, as it has Neil's grand sense of humour, but it's been going slowly for me. Maybe because I'm reading it in snatches rather than all in one go, as I prefer to do. When I do finally get around to reading a novel for fun, I devour it. I'm really starting to like the girls, and there's a lot to learn, but I do want them to succeed, and so I take my job seriously. It's our job to keep them safe, and that's that.
Today was my day off. As it turns out, my CD did in fact come in the mail, but the campus post office closes at four, so all I could do was pick up the slip and hope I wake up in time to collect it tomorrow. I'm excited. My story-writing is stalling again, and that's getting a bit annoying. I moped around on the internet, until it was time to go pick up Marty for the big game. First game with Ericka in a while. We love our Storyteller. Josh and I went to get him together, as Josh remembered where Marty lives. Sort of. We've decided that Josh and Marty have some sort of compound curse that only kicks in when it involves the two of them and navigating in the unknown. We were lost in Parowan for a good half hour before calling Rowsmakitty for assistance, and then we ended up calling Marty and finding him. Aya and Panda came to the game. We ordered pizza, and did not get started on time in standard Scooby fashion, but when we did it was fun. Del makes a kickass Malkavian. She should do it more often. I've never been brave enough to try being one, although some of my characters have been heftily crazy in the past. After the game was over we stood around and just had a load of fun. Most people need booze to rock out and go wild, but nerds just need food and energy, and we're good to go. I have so much fun with my friends, and we're just all geeks and nerds. Sometimes I think that we have more fun than the "cool people" do because we can actually relax and be who we are.
After the game, we drove Marty home, and then went to visit the Rowsmakitty and Jun Pei. We talked, had fun, discovered that there must be something inherently wrong with the name Del and I pronounce the word "blue," and ranted and raved about our mental ages. I also rediscovered my joy in doing bit math problems just for fun, to see if I can do them quickly.
It's been a really awesome day.
