Finals are coming and I'm going to have to work hard. Tuesday was all right, as far as Tuesdays go, what with the whole presentation thing. I did fine on the anatomy of a page, but almost passed out during Anatomy of a scene. I went dizzy and my own voice was faint, but I kept talking and I made it all the way through the speech, and I even got a good score. I felt much better afterwards. Franklin more or less cancelled classes all this week and dispatched us with a take-home test, so there you go. Latin is evening out a little. I'm good with declensions. Really I am. We're still on the third declension, and I've heard absolute horror stories about the fourth and fifth declensions, so we'll see how well that goes.

Wednesday was a pretty good day, all things considered. Went to classes. Lectures are all right. I'm mostly nervous about the papers I will soon have to write. I went to philosophy club with BenTen and Seirra, wherein it was movie night. As my Evangelion seems to have vanished - maybe Josh has it? - I went with some Endless Waltz instead and inadvertently started a massive debate on war and peace, followed by Rochelle starting a debate on the meaning of freedom. The political science kids all band together, and one girl asserted that Hong Kong before the handover was the most free place. I shot her down pretty hard. The political science kids should take colonialism into mind before they go making statements like that. Most unpleasant situations are made more bearable if one is wealthy and has no real reason to complain. I think I might have hurt her feelings. Oh well. We had pizza, and it was fun, and then I had to go to a movie screening were we saw more anatomy of a scene presentations. Tuesday was House night, but before that I helped Rae and Elyse with their presentations because I have some nifty programs on my computer, some of them pirated by Josh (all the loot, none of the scurvy). Wednesday went more or less well until we watched a scene from the Royal Tenenbaums. Anyone who's seen it will know what I mean - the scene with Ritchie in the bathroom when he finds out about his sister...that was mildly unpleasant, to say the least. I ran into BenTen right after, in order to get Del's fish, but Del wasn't home so I went to see Nick. He cheered me up and made me a chocolate milkshake, and we watched Whose Line is it Anyway before I went back to the dorms to sleep. I hate walking from his place at night because it's so cold.

Yesterday classes were good. We saw the last of the presentations, and then after Latin I went to the luau. It wasn't as good as it had been my first year, and I think second year was the best, but it was fun all the same, hooting at hot guys and watching the girls dance. I enjoyed myself. This year it was Sai's turn to do the fire dance. He's Sepha's little brother, and I didn't even know they knew the fire dance, but he did a good job all around. Then I went to hang out with Nick. I took BenTen to work, and then hung out with Nick some more - we watched more comedy - and then I took myself home.

Nick has a job now, so he works, and I have this massive novel to read, so I read and do homework. This weekend I'll be more or less holed up in my room writing that massive paper for Petersen. I lost my ID on Wednesday and have been running around trying to find it, because the last time I lost it (you can't keep anything in the pockets of girl jeans) someone turned it in and I didn't have to buy a new one. So I sort of mooched off the others a bit, and ate at the luau and stuff, and when I went back today there was no ID tech, so I have to go back in on Monday. I really am starting to despise the bureaucracy that goes on around here. I reckon I can enjoy my mom's Easter gift and go get me some Panda Express.

I got a call from Maleena, and she said she might be in town, so who knows how that will go, if she'll be in town when I'm around or what. I haven't seen her in a couple of years now, I think.

Del is away at RMPA, but she left me a nice note to cheer me up, and I've been watching the Clan mascot, a betta fish named Scooby. He is a boring fish, but Del is right - he does recognize his food when I'm about to feed him. It's kinda cool.

Glad to know everyone is all there and all right.

And then I take this from Maleena's journal.

You take the five books nearest you, and use the following sentences to make a passage:

Book 1 - 1st sentence
Book 2 - last sentence, page 50
Book 3 - 2nd sentence, page 100
Book 4 - next to last sentence, page 150
Book 5 - final sentence

Many years later, as he faced the firing squad, Colonel Aureliano Buendia was to remember that distant afternoon when his father took him to discover ice. This aspect of the commentary alerts us to the fact that Shakespeare's response to versions of Lucretia's story which came down to him is in one respect extraordinarily radical. And we have finally come to realize that no such thing as objective reality exists; there is no ultimate truth, for truth is perspectival, depending upon the community and social group in which we live. I am not Suky Snobbs. It really does.

Book 1 - One Hundred Years of Solitude, Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Book 2 - The Oxford Shakespeare: Complete Sonnets and Poems, commentary by Colin Burrow
Book 3 - Literary Criticism: An introduction to Theory and Practice, third edition, Charles Bressler
Book 4 - The Complete Tales of Edgard Allan Poe
Book 4 - Eats, Shoots & Leaves, Lynn Truss

Can't you tell I'm an English major?
