Day 301: Easter Break
Apr. 17th, 2006 08:56 pmThis break was so good for me. I got more done than I honestly thought I would. Of course, I was utterly sure that I was going to get nothing done, but I got things done, and it was good. BenTen and I drove down together on Friday, and we hung out, talking and stuff, watching TV, eating pizza with mom and Shaz and Sid. Her parents came to pick her up, and so we all talked for a bit before I hung out with my mom and Dad. I rented Memoirs of a Geisha on a whim. Mostly out of a desire to see pretty kimonos and Ken Watanabe when he's not getting fiery buildings dropped on his head. I went bonkers. On top of Zhang ZiYi, they had Michelle Yeoh as a Geisha. Ack! If I couldn't tell Japanese and Chinese women apart before, I damn well can now. The contrast on my TV sucked, so I couldn't see Sayuri's blue eyes, but oh well. The chick who played Pumpkin, Youki Kudoh - she was in Mystery Train! I recognized her! She was one of the few Japanese women in that movie. Zhang ZiYi and Gong Li are pretty, but Youki Kudoh is so damn cute. I like her, even if her character turned out evil.
The drive down had been nice, despite the evil wind and the rain that had hit Cedar. The grass was green and yellow, and the mountains were red, and the sky was blue...sorry. Non-sequitur. Mom and I went shopping on Saturday, after I slept in some. I had not been sleeping well at all the past week or so, and catching up on sleep was one of the best things I could have done. I got some jeans to replace the old ones. The three pairs that had gone to seed the worst were from my junior year of high school. I gave in and got some capri jeans, even though mom had to hem them, because on me they just looked awkwardly short. None of the pretty pastel, gentle spring colors looked right on me. Not meant to be racist, but they were essentially white girl colors. With my yellow skin, I would have looked like a toad in those colors. We got everything on sale, which was nice, and then I ended up getting my shirts at Hot Topic instead. I love my mom. I hadn't thought she would go for it, but she did, which was totally awesome. I hung out with my parents some more that evening, and read and wrote and did homework. I slept lots. On Sunday I went to church with the parents, and Shaz showed up a little late. I hung out and helped mom in the library, and came home from church and slept some more. Sunday Del came down for supper, and then BenTen's parents dropped her off. We had a lovely, massive turkey dinner. Shaz had dyed some eggs, and they were pretty, and then she went a little mad with the glitter, but it was awesome all the same.
We girls soaked in the jacuzzi for a bit after supper and after playing some games - Catch Phrase, wherein my father was surprisingly enthusiastic, and Scattergories, wherein I beat Sid by but one point - we talked. Lots. We played word association games and movie line games and song games. We talked about things that no one else will hear about, and it was so much fun, getting to know each other and being cheeky. We also watched Del's copy of Hamlet, with Ethan Hawke. Wow. Just wow. I know the premise of the play, but I've never seen it before. It was bloody fantastic. Horatio was Irish. Also very hot. We slept in, and then this morning mom made us a lovely, massive breakfast. We tried to take BenTen to the bead shop, but sadly it was closed, and so we went to Cold Stone and had ice creams together before they took off. I went and exchanged some clothing and wandered around the mall and took the DVD back to the rental place, and then napped some more. Okay, I could have done homework, but sleep is paramount, dammit.
I feel better. And I haven't even tried to devour my chocolate bunny yet.
I love my family and friends.
