Day 263: Friday the Thirteenth
Jan. 14th, 2006 01:08 pmYesterday was Friday the thirteenth. No, nothing horrible or unlucky happened. It also happened to be the night of a full moon. So we decided to have us some fun.
First of all, Del and I went to see us some Tristan and Isolde. It was surprisingly good. Many "star-crossed lovers" films tend to take on a melodramatic, overly-angsty air and this one managed not to. The actor who played child-Tristan was the cute little boy from "Love Actually." He's such an adorable kid. I wish my kids could be that cute. Unfortunately, I think something strange will have gone on if my kids end up blonde. Okay, so James Franco tends to do the moody-broody thing a lot. He does it well, to say the least, and he pulled off the action scenes well, so I was fine with that. I admired Tristan as a character for sticking to what he knew best and honestly trying to avoid Isolde even though, for once, he did have a prior claim (unlike Lancelot and Guinevere, which is really starting to drive me insane). Like I said to Del, no war is worth one couple in love. Sorry. I'm not very romantic.
We attempted to go to the Off the Cuff two year anniversary thing, but it was way too crowded, so we gave up. However, we ran into Mandy there, and brought her home with us and ended up hanging out. We played around online for a bit, played some Tekken, admired Mandy's l33t cosplay skills and then went Marauding. Perhaps it would have gone better if we'd had BenTen along, but she had to work, so we gathered up some gear, threw on our cloaks and headed up to old Main. We got there without difficulty, although Del swore she saw something in one of the windows and screamed. We lit our happy bonfire, and though Marty was the only male and perhaps at risk from the wrath of angry females, it was good to have him along. He's funny and witty, but he always has the right thing to say. Afterwards we headed down to the Centrum to visit our philosophers and genuises, and Mandy demonstrated some of her awesome photography skills (the girl has a fantastic imagination). Then we walked her home, and she was cool and made us some butterbeer. Yes, butterbeer. Like in Harry Potter. It wasn't alcoholic, but it tasted really good. I tempted the gods and drank the stuff without taking a pill - as most of it was milk - but it was worth it. If I felt sick at all last night, it was when I was asleep. We talked some, and then headed home, and then drove Marty home.
He said something profound - which he does with surprising frequency, though people rarely listen. He said, any day you remember is a good day. At first I thought he meant that if you could remember it, i.e. you didn't undergo some calamity that messed with your memory, you were good to go. But he meant it how he said it. Three weeks from now I might remember a random day of routine, wherein I went to class and did homework and watched a weekly TV show. But three years from now, it'll be "I went to school from this year to this year, but one night..." And that'll be a day I remember. Marty's a very wise boy.
If you couldn't tell, I slept in till an ungodly hour. When Del stopped by on her lunch break I had barely dragged myself out of bed. I will now attempt to do some homework.
And to any newcomers or wanderers passing by, I added "miranwe" to my friends list. It's Mandy. We love her.
