Day 654: These are the days
Aug. 10th, 2008 11:25 pmMy last days. Dad made a joke about a last supper last night. Sorta funny, but not entirely.
Friday was my last day of work. Sorta sad, really. We took pictures around the office and whatnot. I stuck around and chatted. Made it home to have dinner with my parents, and like many a household around the world, we settled in to watch the Olympic opening ceremonies. Beautiful. Wish I could've been there. Monika was in town for a friend's wedding, and we hung out, watched the ceremonies, made fun of cheesy news, and then stayed up talking. She left Saturday morning. I talked to Erin, who was in Cedar for the USF, and I was pretty bummed that I didn't get to see her.
Me, mom, and Dad washed and waxed my car (we'd gotten the oil changed and the headlights cleaned after work on Friday) and then we started packing me up. I went through the house and grabbed stuff I'd strewn around, then cleared out all the gear from my bookcases, as well as my frightening collection of electronic devices and video games. Dad was awesome and took us down to Mesquite to eat at a buffet at one of the casinos. We took the scenic route down and had good chats. The food was good, although I had a grammar nazi spaz over some terribly mis-punctuated signs at the buffet tables. Then we hung out and watched more Olympic coolness. (Male gymnasts are seriously ripped. And the Japanese had one hell of bishonen on their team. If I were any other girl than me, I'd've hit that like a freight train. But I digress.)
Today we went to church. Ruth wasn't at the library, so I helped mom, and all of our neighbors stopped in to wish me luck for second year. Afterwards we had lunch, and then packed up all of my clothes. Dad is going insane with how much nonsense I've collected over the summer, but he's a genius engineer and will sort it out. We watched some more Olympics after supper and just generally hung out.
I'm gonna miss my parents something fierce.
On a brighter note, I've learned how to crochet a little stuffed Cthulhu. So I'm going to ask my friends what their favorite colors are and make a little multicolored family of everyone's favorite Elder God. It'll be awesome. I'm trying to find a way to make Marty a beanie hat with a little Cthulhu instead of a pompom for winter.
I also learned, rather distressingly, that I've been making my scale armor inside out. Right after I'd gotten into a bloody rhythm, too. So I'll have to unpick it all and start fresh.
Gah.
But I love the nerdy things I do.
My parents are so going to laugh at me.
I'm gonna miss everyone. But it's not over yet.
