Day 652: The Call

Yeah. So "Breaking Dawn" wasn't as bad as I thought it would be (hope for the best, prepare for the worst and all that). And maybe I've trained myself to like angst way too much. But I will say this - Bella Swan makes me want to PUNCH BABIES. The entire novel read like Mary Sue on crack and was pretty much the entire reason I wasn't into the Vampire Diaries except for the guy who loses in the love triangle (Damon, Jacob, I'd take either). Bella was too friggin' perfect, too awesome, too everything. And I think Jacob waaaaaay got the shaft. He was a nice guy, but all that ever seemed to matter was that Bella was ticked off. She couldn't be happy for him, that a convenient plot device saved him from a heck of a lot of heartache. Oh noooo. Because it happened to her baby. (Which is totally the baby I'd punch.) But yeah, I read it all. Got it done before one a.m. too.
And I'm ranting about the sparkly vampires because I'm procrastinating the real point of this entry, which was my official farewell to Cedar City.
Friday was good. Drove up to Cedar, and a bunch of us chilled. Hung out, dorked out on computers for a bit. The best part of the night, for me was Off the Cuff. It was friggin hilarious, with so many of the jokes well-placed and well-timed, one of the best shows I've seen. Plus I got to drool over Ian a bit, which is always a treat. Gotta love having scenery like that around. Which makes me feel like I'm objectifying, which I am, but then I'm too rational to want to date a man simply because he's physically attractive. Plus I'm on friendly acquaintance terms with his girlfriend, and getting in the middle of that nonsense is soooooo not cool. We played Munchkin after the show and chilled in general.
Saturday I woke up with a hardcore wish to get Breaking Dawn and read it while the others slept, but no such thing happened. Friday me, Ericka, and Logan went to Cafe Orleans to get food. Chani, Dawn Rae and Baby Gabe, Sarah, and Corey all ended up joining us, and of course Chalee was our server. On Saturday me, Ericka, and Sarah went to taco bell together and then bead shopping, looking for stuff for Sarah's wedding and for my hair. (I'm still vain about my hair even though it's short now.) There was some playing of Mario Party and other silliness. Me, Chani, and Ericka ended up going to the park for the rest of Saturday afternoon. We sprawled out on a blanket, reading poetry to each other, drawing, writing, and looking at the sky, basking in the sun. We had one of the best laughs of our lives, and Chani was awesome enough to commemorate it in the form of pictures. We went to Denny's in the middle of the night, though I was tired. I received an epic phone call from Marty while we were at the park - him saying goodbye - and also from Ericka's brother Alex. I had an epic phone call with Aaron as well, which was fun. He didn't know about my short hair. And this trip TJ belatedly noticed my short hair. I watched Mirrormask with Chani, Ericka, and Curry, and it was awesome. I should buy that movie.
Sunday was full of Serenity. Mostly chilling, food, and fighter practice. Some jerkfaces called us faggots even though there were moms in the knitting circle. Ericka did my hair, which resulted in some embarrassing hair-petting by loads of people at once. I met a girl who looks like Cloud Strife and is cool. I grappled with TJ. I clawed him; he wrenched my arm, so we're even. I sparred with TJ a bit using Trapp's weapon. I also played with Nate and Vanya's little girl, Rose. First kid who hasn't hated me on sight. Chani and I were her dolls/chess pieces, and I let her do my hair. She was always wildly protective of TJ and freaked out at us when we sparred. Threatened us with a boxing glove. We were in the middle of a mutual strangle-fest when she loomed over us and said, firmly, "TJ! no!" and we just cracked up, and that was the end of a fight. Defeated by a toddler. Overall it was a good weekend. Bittersweet. Logan gave me some comics before I left; Chani gave me Dr. Horrible music (which played in my head the entire time I read Breaking Dawn) and then I tried not to cry (or tried to cry?) all the way home. Regina Spektor's "The Call" almost got me, as did Elliot Smith's "Fond" Farewell to a Friend." But I made it home safely. So that's the end of an era, then, the end of Nagi's long-time adventures in Cedar. Now would probably be a good time to cry.
