So...I don't remember much about Wednesday, other than the parents and I hung about watching television whilst I crocheted. It's what I do.
Thursday was...whoa. The Boss went out of town to do some awe-inspiring 200-mile relay race, leaving the rest of us in the office. Mum brought homemade spring rolls for lunch, which I shared with the girls in the office. After lunch, I discovered I'd done all that Andy had asked me to. As he wasn't back from lunch, I was at a loss as to what to do. So what did I do? I went home. The girls sent me home to help Mum. Mum sent me up to Cedar to be with my friends, which was a welcome surprise, as she is usually skeptical about my weekend trips as gas is so bloody expensive. So I went. I hung out with Seirra, playing Mario Party and just talking about life. Then Sei slept, and I hung out with Ericka. Their place didn't get any hot water, so we boiled water on the stove and did the dishes. It was Ericka's awesome idea to make one-up cupcakes.
What is a one-up cupcake? It is most decidedly a nerdy treat, to wit, that it is a cupcake decorated to look like the green mushrooms in Mario that give Mario an extra life as he's trundling along through his obstacle-filled world. Ericka went nuts coloring white frosting green (I got the empty gnome-shaped bottle when she was done) and then we baked cupcakes. There was some question about whether the eggs were or were not a health hazard, and on that we consulted my mum. I helped her ice the cupcakes green, and then we created the white spots using white chocolate chips. It was fun. We kept some for ourselves, then took the rest to Logan and Curtis and Davey. I returned Chani's garb to her, and then Ericka and I headed on home. It was simple fun - we talked while she cooked and cleaned and baked and things. (I had previously tidied up the place vaguely so the landlord could show the empty rooms to a potential tenant.)
This morning I chilled with Seirra, talking about writing, just like in the old days when we'd have Seirra Night down in the basement. I took some requests for that prompt-novel thing I'm working on. (That's right, I'm working on another novel based on prompts. I did one in high school, and it never was properly finished, but I love it anyway and am rather proud of it.) I planned to get home in good time, but I lost my keys, so I ended up booking it home on the rather shady side of the speed limit. I made it home just in time to get my hair done for family pictures.
The photography was a good half hour late, so I spent some time in the comic shop drooling over a pack of Star Munchkin and D&D 4.0 I hear Curry is going to run a game on that, but I'd love to just, you know, have the books. Because I was looking at goth-loli dresses online. For the price of one goth-loli dress, I could get all three core manuals for D&D 4.0. Books are always better than dresses, right? I really want one of those dresses. I could totally pull it off. It's the one thing I know I could totally pull off that most of my other chick friends can't. Not that I'm out to upstage them or anything.
Also, it would also be sorta fun to see some of my guy friends (especially the ones from high school) swallow their tongues if they saw it.
Still, I'm not sure I could justify that much money on a dress.
I do have X-Japan tickets to save for, after all.
We got family pictures done. It was an arduous affair, as my sister was convinced the entire episode was all about her and making sure she looked wonderful, as she whined that she looked fat in the previous picture. Her narcissism grated on me, but I let it go. We had a quick family interval to get out of the nice picture clothes, and then we hit the cinemas to see Prince Caspian because dad hadn't seen it. He liked it, though, which was good.
We had supper, and I spent the rest of the evening finishing my doll dress.
I did it! I'll have to take pictures of the finished thing. Based on recommendations from Mum and Dad, I altered the pattern slightly so the dress is more elegant and less of a Southern ante-bellum monster. I also added pearls for buttons and straps rather than using a hook and eye to fasten the dress and a granny-square bolero jacket to masquerade as sleeves. Even with the jacket, the bodice isn't so secure, and it needed straps anyway, so I did it. I reckon if I make another doll, I can recreate this dress (having used only half of the granny squares for the skirt) as well as making another dress from another pattern (as different dolls come with different dress patterns). So it seems I shall spend my summer crocheting, gaming, and writing. Overall, I like it.
These last couple of days have been pretty good.
I also read some awesome Gundam Wing stuff again, which made me happy. Aw, but I miss my pilots.
