Day 609: Living the life
Apr. 14th, 2008 09:36 pmSo life is good. I mean, it's barreling headlong toward major suckage, but in the meantime life is good. Sunday was a good day. The new guy - Keith - got confirmed. We had ward conference, which was full of good lessons, and also free cookies from the RS stake presidency. After church, Amber and Jessie invited me, Brielyn, and Lindsey over to their place for homemade ice cream. It was delicious - raspberry chocolate. We played Settlers of Catan, which I've never played before and sorta sucked at, but it was a lot of fun (Jessie totally won; Amber was the banker of sorts.) When I got home I talked to my mom and to Justin, which is always nice, and I got those non-school projects done that I've been wanting to get done, which makes me happy.
Today was more or less a good day. I'm done with all the reading for Contracts for the rest of the semester. I have ten pages left of torts. I've given up reading property. I have way more Con Law than is good for any person, but I'll get it done. I worked hard - for nearly two hours straight - on my Con Law outline before giving up and coming home, where I goofed off like a fool.
Family Home evening was lots of fun. We played recess games. I can't remember how to play hopscotch! How sad is that? Apparently there are different versions of the game going around, so we tried the different variations. I also learned how to play four square, which I've never played before. While everyone else was playing around the world ping-pong, Dustin, Brielyn, and I sneaked out back to spar. Brielyn wasn't feeling it tonight, and then her shinai went all funny, so I fought Dustin. He's good and fast. I had him fight Peter so I could stand back and watch him fight - always good to watch and learn how an opponent moves. Dustin totally killed me with the kodachi nitou ryu, but it only made me more determined to train hard this summer. I want to get so much done this summer. We'll see how it goes. My left hand - the hand I was guarding with for nitou ryu - is pretty bloody and gross, but that's okay - I can type, after all. I had a great time.
When I got back to my place, I'd noticed James had left me a message. He said he felt bad for not calling sooner, which was in direct conflict with what girls are taught about guys - that they never call when they say they will, if they call at all (Justin being the grand exception). Not that James said he'd call, either. So I had to talk him down from freaking out about our buffer-date. Poor guy. He really is shy. Now I'm hoping I didn't accidentally get his hopes up.
I'm a sword-wielding law student. Who gets their hopes up about that?
Random notes: Friday night Adam came over for "male bonding" over Guitar Hero because he and his lady just split. We also played his Star Wars card game, which was cool, if confusing. And I saw Thomas on Sunday. He's back from BYU Idaho already, which confuses me, but then I remembered they started earlier than us and also have no spring break, so it sorta makes sense. It was random, though. I didn't think I'd really ever see any Checketts siblings again until the younger ones get old enough to come to the singles ward.
Oh well - Con Law, here I come.

Date: 2008-04-16 12:09 am (UTC)You've joined the Settlers of Catan club! How fun for you. Sounds like you play lots of games...are you sure you're getting any real work done up there? :) (*wink* Totally kidding, don't kill me!)
Your icon doesn't have quite the same ring as the original, but it sure is funny.
Love you and good luck with upcoming finals and such!
