Day 604: Ah...Fridays
Apr. 4th, 2008 10:45 pmWell, even though the title is about Friday, this entry is also about Thursday.
Thursday. Whee. Supreme court. I took notes policy-style for the two and a half odd hours we had in there. It was enlightening to see. Some attorneys were well-prepared and great speakers, others seemed ill-prepared and ill at ease in front of the court. Some were passionate, others were as dry as brittle bones. One Justice mumbled when he asked questions, and some of the attorneys had to ask him to repeat questions. The worst was when he sat back from the mic and had his hands over his mouth - none of us could hear a thing. We made a game attempt at asking questions, and a couple students in my legal writing section got theirs asked and answered. Afterwards me, Sylvia, Xiao Qian, and Jennifer went over to the Java Jay to get soup. It was cold and miserably wet, but we huddled under Xiao Qian's umbrella, and that was that. I got a cup of hot soup as well as an Italian soda -which I had been craving desperately - and we talked. It was good. Afterwards I holed up in the library doing Con Law and Civ Pro, the readings for which are absolutely massive. It's insane. I took myself off to Legal Writing at the appointed time, and we had fun and dissected the Supreme Court arguments. Got some good tips for whenever we have to do oral argument. I'm nervous.
I went home afterward and basically goofed off. Hung around the internet, did some Brain Age - which I do try to do every day - and also did some origami. I've been getting back into it again. It's a fun, relatively cheap hobby, and I'm learning to make cool things like dragons and sphinxes and stuff. When I'm feeling brave I'll give the hydra, unicorn, and centaur a go. I talked to my parents over our laptops while they were in SoCal.
Probably the best thing about yesterday was getting a letter from Del. After a very long day, seeing her handwriting on the letter in my mailbox basically made my day. I devoured her letter, and now I plan on writing a good long reply. Wow, it's good to get mail from friends, and it's been a while since I've heard from her, minus the spazzy phone call about her accident.
Today was a good day. I managed to exert the willpower to get out of bed at a decent time, and then I took myself off to school for study group. I feel awful at how disorganized we are, and undisciplined, and unruly. But Liz was awesome - she made an omelette, brought some fruit, and also made some great little cucumber and cream cheese sandwiches. She's pretty game about the nonsense we do. Gack. I wish we could stay more on track. I did homework after study group. We had Torts over lunch and then property right after, but I survived. After school I ran errands, picked up some more origami supplies - I know, I need to bloody well stop spending money - and then I came home. Did homework. Honest-to-goodness progress was made on my paper. I'm exactly half way through - revised the first two arguments and now I have to do the last two and the conclusion and that's it. I'm feeling pretty good about myself. Hope it works.
Then I goofed off some more. Played with my new origami books and paper and made things. Watched some Red Eye to get me some good Cillian Murphy time, and then I watched Legally Blonde. Again. I watched it pretty early in the school year, and I thought I'd watch it again. I noticed odd things, like that the mean female professor teaches Civ Pro, and that one teacher who supposedly spits teaches Torts. I noticed in one scene one of the students holding what looked like a genuine blue-and-red West-published textbook. Small things. Noticed what seemed like some serious legal inconsistencies in some things, but it was fun to watch. I sympathized with Elle a lot, and also with Vivian a bit, because I'll confess, I'm naturally suspicious of the pretty girls in my class. Not that they'll be mean or that they're stuck-up, but that they'll get ahead because they're prettier than me. Whatever. That's irrational. After plugging in a good two solid hours on that paper I had to take a break, so I did. Got calls from some people - Mom, who mistook my sister's voice for mine on the message machine, Dustin about conference - but have mostly chilled alone.
I hopped online to see if anyone was up to anything fun, but I suspect most of my friends are headed off to work.
I survived. Once I get this stupid paper done, I can buckle down and prep for finals.

(for the origami bird, really)
