Day 578: Maybe I shouldn't be...
Feb. 17th, 2008 05:08 pmLiving alone. As it turns out, I didn't have trials first thing in the morning. I had them in the afternoon. But I can't read. On the upside, I at least know where the federal courthouse is now. I showed up, slunk away in defeat, came home, and did some homework. I finished all my reading, then took a nap. I had worked up a huge deficit, and I was determined to get over it. I woke up, went to trial (which wasn't nearly as fun as the first one I did). I stopped by the Game Stop on the way home to trade in the used copy of Guitar Hero II I'd bought, because it wasn't working. I'll check if the new one is working tomorrow. I did more homework, and took another nap. Yes, another nap. I had dinner and was fully planning on going out to movie night with the sisters, but as it turned out the garage door was broken. Off its tracks on one side, halfway open but not responding to my garage door opener, and broken in the middle.
As I do when things go wrong around here, I went and had a chat with Stacy the neighbor. We called it into the management company, and they said they'd send a technician out, but we didn't stick around to wait. It was cold, and we were annoyed that security had been compromised, and also that no one else had reported it. After all, I'd only been home a good three or four hours during the time it had happened, and since it was a Saturday and plenty of people were getting on with their lives I figured someone would have noticed. But if someone didn't - now the garage door is permanently open until they fix it, I guess. At least we can get in and out. I spent the rest of the night doing more homework and then trying to relax. Reading weird WK vampire fic. Go figure. Not one of my usual writers, but it was good all the same.
I realized I haven't been online at all this week, and I feel bad. I miss Seirra and Chani and Schu. I have no idea if BenTen is back from War yet.
I got up early today for trials again. I could tell that these were top teams competing. They were scary, and it wasn't fun in the witness box at all. My 'counsel' told me that it was totally appropriate to fake-cry if opposing counsel was mean on cross-examination. I was ready to try it a couple of times.
Today was a nice, simple day at church. We had some stealthy ninja mission things going on with the sisters, all of us trying to get one sister's birthday present together without her noticing. It was good fun. We had combined Sunday School together because our numbers were so sad and small. Rachel's man is here from England, so I guess his special party is tomorrow night after FHE. I'm woefully behind on schoolwork and outlines, and I signed up for the accepted students day breakfast tomorrow, which is going to cut into my study time, but that's all right.
I am also a glutton for punishment and thought it would be cool to attempt to write onto the law review over spring break. So I signed up for that. Also witness examination auditions are in March, so I should prep my closing argument for that as well. Some spring break that's going to be. But I'll be home and with family and friends, so that's all good.
I have letters to write. It's been a really crazy week, and while I'm glad it's over, I'm glad I didn't miss a moment of it.
