Day 577: Off Kilter
Feb. 15th, 2008 10:50 pmIt's been a wild ride the last couple of days. Everyone was a wreck yesterday until we turned in our memos. Brad wanted to shoot me when I dinked around on the internet for half an hour after school yesterday before I even thought to print off my memo and edit it. But I did so, and turned it in. Professor K gave us chocolate, took in our memos, gave us our reading assignment for Tuesday, and then sent us on our way, feeling sorry for us that we had to be there on Valentine's Day. I skipped on home with a bounce in my step. I was humming and obnoxiously cheerful and everything. It's a rare thing, a law student with a bounce in her step, humming as she goes to her locker. I called my parents and Justin to wish them a Happy Valentine's Day, and then I wolfed down instant noodles.
Brielyn, awesome friend that she is, offered to hang out with me last night as a birthday/memo-done celebration. I wondered what we could possibly do together, since I had figured I'd be in class till half six and something of a zombie. And then it came to me. Brielyn likes to play DDR! So I shifted some furniture, gathered up my PS2 supplies, and bundled them down to the car. Then I went to the Game Stop on the way to her place and spent all my birthday money on Guitar Hero II, III, and a couple of guitars. I made it to Brielyn's after getting lost once, and we danced.
It was great. It's been so long since I've played. We played some Tekken, too, and then Brielyn's roommate Lindsey came home, and we played Guitar Hero. Which I sorta suck at.
Not so much, since I spent the last three hours unlocking songs on it. But I sucked then.
We played till eleven, and then I had to take myself home and sleep.
I've worked up a serious sleep deficit this week, and I really need to fix that before I head into next week. I'm also so behind on my homework that it's not even funny. I was too tired to get up early and go buy snacks for study group, for which I felt pretty, bad, so I just took some of my valentine's chocolate with me. Mark is the man, and explained Civ Pro so well that I actually understand it for once. He also lent me his Civ Pro cards, because even though I have the Civ Pro II cards, the Erie Doctrine is with the first semester cards. We went over Con Law, which was a bit of a repeat since everything we covered Watts had gone over in class the lecture previous.
I was pathetically tired all through classes. I went to a lunchtime meeting to see about writing onto the law review over spring break. Which is going to ruin my spring break, but law review does look really good on a resume. I want to do law review and trial team. Do I have issues or what? But I need to distinguish myself so I can get a good job, and I also need to develop skills that will make me a good lawyer. Most of the stuff I learn in my first year will get me past the bar. The stuff I learn in a trial practice class will save me in the courtroom. So I'm crazy, but I'm gonna do what I've got to do.
Jason is freaking out because his ex-wife filed more papers on him and is trying to force him to sell all the property he owns. He's really tense, and I feel bad for him. Instead of going to the Olive Garden with Stacy like he planned, he had to go downtown to see his attorney. I told him to talk to Bishop Dallon and maybe get some advice from the marriage and divorce professor too. I tried to stay after and do work - read con law and most of torts, but I still have to do contracts and civ pro - but I was so freakin' tired that I kept falling asleep on the couch in the study corner, so I just dragged myself home.
Ate. Watched Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust. I got Del's birthday card and present in the mail and called her to thank her, but she didn't answer. Hopefully I'll catch her this weekend. Then I played way too much Guitar Hero. I'm no great at it, but I'm at least pretty proficient at it. Enough to win more games, I guess.
Anyway, I should sleep. I have mock trials in the morning.
Ack. That'll teach me to volunteer for things.
Also, I guess I did pretty well as a witness for the mock trial we did on Wednesday - a lot of the other students in my section told me I was pretty funny. And I rated low on the funny scale during the pack survey. Clearly my sense of humor has been warped so it works on law students only.
