Day 534: Good times in Omaha

So...Friday was a pretty good day. I busted my tail doing homework on Friday during the break between classes (as we also had no Con Law) and then I went home. Chilled a bit. Slept. Went to the dance. It was awesome fun. Thomas and I dressed up as matching rednecks in jeans and green shirts with straw hats. The food was great. I sat with Brielyn and her date Dan, Ashley and her date (I think his name was Ben) who had dressed up in awesome seventies costumes, and Chelsea and her date Jordan. We ate, we talked, and then we danced. The Institute council went all out planning this dance, because we had catered food, and then the DJ was professional. He had a disco ball, colored lights, a fog machine, and everything. It was a wild time. There were plenty of slow dances. I danced with Thomas on all but two of the slow dances. There was a lot of line dancing, and, of course, Cotton-eyed Joe, which is always a rush of energy. I was completely beat when the dance was done, but we sat around talking for a bit before parting ways. I came home and crashed.
Saturday morning was an adventure in zombie land. Nagi was definitely a zombie. But I drove up to the stake building anyway. If I get my piano skills back on target, I now know how to handle registration for a church organ, as well as 101 ways to play things simply and make them sound good. When one is a soloist, one must sound perfect. When one is an accompaniest (did I spell that right? Is that even a word?) one must keep playing one even after one botches horrifically. But I'm prepared. Also, conducting music is much more complicated than people make it seem in the back of the hymn book. But I learned, so here I am, in case of musical emergencies. I can play all of one hymn decently. I can learn more of the easy ones.
Afterwards I hit up the mall to grab some things, like a couple volumes of manga, birthday cards - because I missed Brielyn's birthday this week - and some more cool pretty stationary. Then I went to kendo keiko with Jason and Ella. I'm pretty sure Ella's just interested in beating people around. She hacked at Jason for nearly fifteen minutes without getting in a single hit. Then she hacked at me for another fifteen minutes before I gave in and let her count an illegal shot as a proper hit. Then I fought Jason. He's been talking smack for a couple of weeks now about how he'd beat me down as soon as he got his hands on a sword. Let's just say that there's a reason Adam wanted to put money on me. Just practising in the last couple of months has improved me so much more. I'm back to not being afraid to take hits, and I took some of Logan's advice and am learning to get up in people's faces, as well as to generally attack from the inside. It's been fun, but I really need to get beaten around by better fighters - like Logan and Ericka - if I want to improve.
Afterwards I crashed out for about two hours, and then I went to hang out with Jessie and the Sister Missionaries. We threw a pizza party for Jessie, who had to take a huge Japanese test yesterday. It was awesome. I brought cookies, chips, and sodas as well, and we had a grand time, talking about random things and getting to know each other better. Jessie opens up more every time, and she's a seriously awesome girl. I like her a lot. I plan on still visiting her and hanging out with her even after the sisters transfer. It was all kinds of good times. I like the Sister Missionaries a lot, too. They're good people.
And then I came home. Did some homework. Was high on caffeine and spent the rest of the night trying to mentally wear myself out so I could sleep. Success came at about four a.m. That's okay, though, because I slept in till ten.
I had a grand weekend, overall.
It has been decided, I think by general consensus between Jason and Xiao, that Adam is jealous of me going out with Thomas. Although it seems Thomas and I are the only ones who are cool with the fact that going out on dates and getting to know each other does not signify a long-term commitment. I was hanging out and playing video games with Adam on Thursday evening (after I got all my homework done like a good Nagi) when Thomas called to see what the plan was for Friday night. (I also got a call from Marty, which just about made my week right then and there.) For a little while afterwards Adam was all weird. He's always weird about my dates with Thomas. Despite my habits when I was younger, hanging out with a guy doesn't mean I want to date him. In fact, if I want to date a guy, I probably won't hang out with him so he has to expend some effort if he wants to spend time with me. Meh. I'm not too worried about it. Adam and I are just friends, and I doubt anything else will happen (by sheer force of will and Brad's gun, if nothing else).
Also, me, Xiao, and Jason did our Friday review of an old exam from online. It definitely helped and made us feel better. We have lots of questions about it, but it was good practice. It also made us all realize that, despite the mountain of homework under which we flounder, we have actually learned something and perhaps the constant stream of work has prepared us more than we realize. So we're going to hound down our Con Law prof on Monday, but I think the exams, while difficult, will be manageable.
