Day 347: Gratuitous shirtlessness

Despite having to be up early on Saturday morning, a whole troop of us took ourselves to the midnight movie on Saturday Night to see "The Covenant." We had all predicted that it was going to be horrible, and oh but it was. But it was also wonderful. So many teen movies have gratuitous shots of girls in dormitories wearing cute skimpy underwear, or in the shower, or all steamy in the locker room. Sure, this movie had its share of that. But it had its share and more in good-looking men who just sort of stood around on screen looking good and not much else. Of course, Steven Strait was almost the entire reason for our going to see the movie. Wow. It's not every day that we get to see a man like him in a swimsuit like that. Swimming is a very underappreciated sport. It has much better spectator prospects than most other sports. I remember going to Fighting Fish practice with my sister in Singapore, partially because my mother had to drag me along, and I could get homework done on the bleachers, and partially because Tony Dixon was the hottest thing from UWC, if not on the island, and he paraded around in little more than a towel when he wasn't dripping with water and flexing his muscles. The butterfly will always be my favorite stroke, not just because it was the one at which I was best, but because it shows off broad male shoulders best, and, well, I am sort of a sucker for nice shoulders. I'm not entirely sure why Rodney and Marty came along. Well, Marty must have known what he was in for, because he went to see GoF with us and had to endure us all sinfully drooling over an underaged - but well-built, all things considering - boy in a hot tub (also known as prefects' bath). Marty was invited because he's our buddy, and Alex is even more interested in boys than I am, but why Rodney came along is something of a mystery. The movie itself was terrible, full of pointlessly gratuitous use of prop lenses and high/low angle shots, which added nothing to the narration. It was written badly, and half the time the line delivery was unbelievable ("they paid him to say it like that?") but the very hot boys made it all better. I am so buying it when it comes out on DVD so I can secretly enjoy it - and some chocolate - on a bad day.
Saturday morning I was up bright and early and went down to the park - with BenTen - to help Del with her animal fundraiser thing. It was lots of fun. I got to meet some of her friends and coworkers, and help out. Granted, not much got done on my end, since no one seemed remotely interested in buying t-shirts, but oh well. I got to talk to Stef - of Staf and Trav fame - and enjoy being out in the sun. It started off as a cool day, then got a little windy and grey and threatened rain, and then it got hot. I participated in the duck race, and checked out the cool birds of prey that Martin had (they always remind me of my Uncle Craig, who also raises wild birds, and used to rehab them as well). In a fit of childishness, me, Ericka, Megan, and Tara and Ashley (a couple of girls from the facility doing service work for the day) went to play on the jumping castle and inflatable slide. Okay, so I honestly shouldn't have been wearing a skirt, but it was so much fun that I didn't care. Still, it takes energy to be a kid, energy that I just don't have anymore. After the event wound down - and I got to see some cool dogs, including one giant white Greate Pyrennese that looked more like a polar bear than a dog - we went out to lunch at Wingers, and had fun and talked. It was awesome. I loved it. It was a really good day.
I went to sleep really early last night, at around nine, so now I'm awake and getting lots of things done. The library doesn't open until two, so until them I plan on getting things done. Yes. Getting things done.
