Day 342: Surprised
Aug. 31st, 2006 02:24 pmThe former school postal system operated on little white slips of paper shoved into our tiny boxes that told us when we had received something that did not actually fit into the box. In the advent of technology, and supposedly many students' whining, the system went digital, so now we receive email notification of a package's arrival. I was very surprised when I received such an email, as I had not ordered anything, and my mother had not mentioned sending me anything. Curious, I printed off the notification and went down to the post office after class to explore. As soon as I saw the package, I knew. It was from the conference I attended in March. Inside the package as a book of the papers that had been selected, papers presented at the conference. I saw Alex and Sei and Dr. Tvordi standing in the sandwich line, so I had to run and tell them that it had come. I wasn't even sure if my paper had made it, but sure enough, there it was. The pictures weren't in colour, but I didn't care. Just yesterday I'd sat outside the writing center helping a girl edit a piece. From the piece's format I could see that it had been published, and she had just copied it out of the book (it was her own piece, no worries) and was cleaning it up for use again, and I felt a bit moronic, because she's a couple of years behind me in school and already published.
And then this came. Dr. Tvordi hugged me. When I saw BenTen later, she hugged me too.
Shakespeare was great today. Me, Del, and BenTen all went together, and sat together, and were some sort of bizarre little trio that amused Tvordi and sort of confused the other students in the class. It was fun, all three of us together. We'd walked to school together, and sat together - we raced up the stairs - and everything. The discussion was awesome, and I loved it lots. School is going good.
I sat with Seirra, Jory, and Lee for lunch. I also saw Taylor, one of Nick's old friends. He's always waved at me, even though we've never really known each other. Today started off a bit slow, but has been surprisingly good.
