I am not literally under fire. But now I am the guardian of not one, but two puppies. Dingo is six months old, cries incessantly - when I'm around, when I'm not around, when I'm holding him, when I'm not holding him - and we have had to venture into the snow repeatedly for potty breaks. He chews on everything, or he tries to dig at it. He picks on Ivy, who then gets aggravated and picks on him right back, only she's way bigger than him, so it gets ugly quickly. He threw up four times in a row today - literally he horked, moved to a new spot, horked again, x 2 - and at least three times in the past twenty-four hours I have had to abandon a phone call due to a dog-related disaster. Cody did figure out to shut Dingo in his kennel in the office in the basement on the far side of our house from the bedroom so we can actually get some sleep, and so far we have had only three housebreaking accidents. And I feel like I'm going crazy. If I'm not keeping an eye on one dog (Ivy got fixed last week, keeps licking at her stitches or damaging her cone or EATING DINNER OFF THE COUNTER YET AGAIN or chewing on things she shouldn't, and also she is a little stoned) I'm keeping an eye on the other, and I am about ready to cry.

Good news is, Dingo is adorable. He's all white with hints of red around his ears (he is half husky, half red heeler, hence 'dingo', since red heelers are apparently part dingo), and he has grey eyes, and when he's ambling around in the snow he looks like a tiny white polar bear. He is six weeks old and soft and cute as can be, which is why he isn't dead yet.

And Ivy...Ivy is sweet and quiet and really obedient most days. Lays at my feet to keep them warm. Snuggles up to Cody when he's sick or tired. And I love her dearly. Which is why she is still alive, if wearing the cone of shame. Also, when she is stoned she is hilarious, staring at the wall for half an hour straight and other oddities.

I did spend most of last week getting better, only to get worse on the weekend while we were visiting Cody's parents in Idaho. Cody inherited a bunch of used tools from his dad. I went to an obscure cousin's baby shower. Leisa and I watched a lot of Supernatural. Cody took good care of me while I was sick and was super sweet about it. On the way up north we started to read a space opera novella a distant acquaintance wrote, but gave up partway through. We ended up reading aloud the weird story we wrote together and decided to finish it. Cody wrote his part, so now I need to write mine.

Good news from last week: I have a new job. Someone at the GAL office where my friend Dan works retired suddenly, so they called me in and offered me her spot, and I start in three weeks. I am pretty excited. Yes, it means putting on a suit and heels and being a lawyer again, but more importantly it means helping children, and it will be good experience if I ever need to go out and lawyer again, should something happen to Cody.

Also, my mom is coming to visit this weekend for my birthday. We're going to go out to dinner and maybe go see about buying some nice lawyer shoes.

Dingo won't stop barking. The insolent berk licks up the water that hits the bars of his pen when I spray him for barking.

...I better make sure Ivy hasn't knocked down the gate and eaten some more of our dinner.

(Honestly, my life is okay, but in the few minutes it's taken to write this, I have been very frazzled.)
