So...look who hasn't updated for almost two weeks!

I'd better make it fast because, you know, work.

1. Work

Has been crazy. Have had some long, long days in court, back-to-back hearings, crazy things happening (some guy wants to intervene and adopt one of my kids before we've adjudicated the petition). Also one of the other guardians was, er, forcibly retired, which means his cases have to be spread among the remaining of us till he's replaced. Also we got a new managing attorney, so my caseload is getting shuffled. I will no longer be primary guardian in front of one judge, but rather secondary in front of two judges, so I went through my case list and decided what to keep and what to shaft onto the new guardian (I say new, probably not brand new, most likely a transfer in from another district). I decided not to be a total prat and just give the new guardian all the awful cases. I gave over most of the new cases, so a transfer will be less disruptive, and kept cases with my kids who don't handle change well, or cases that are complicated enough that a transfer could result in things going awry. I did hand over a couple of my more awful cases, but they are also newer, so there you go. So...I will be in court four days a week, which means I'll have less time to do meetings and visits, so days will be longer, and I will be seeing even less of my home than before. Good times. My mother joked that Cody and I are probably trading notes because we don't see each other. She has no idea how right she is.

2. Scouts

Last week was pack night, so there was box car races. Turns out not having children means Cody and I are not wise to the way of the physics of Otter Pops, so despite putting them in the freezer overnight a good number of them were not frozen, which resulted in Otter Pop explosions all over the church kitchen.

We have a grand master plan this month: a mini camp-out! Obviously we can't take the boys anywhere overnight, so we are going to do it in stages. This week was basic first aid (which made one boy queasy, and not the one I expected). Next week will be camp snacks. And then day camp after that. And then the final week we will commandeer a neighbor's fire pit, pitch a tent, and have camp snacks and have good times, and they will have earned their camping badge.

So...having only two boys isn't so bad. We still need to see about joining the wolves, who have few boys.

3. Family

Apart from not seeing Cody a whole lot because he was at the lab, family has been okay. Ish. Kip set off to Canada to go on his dream mountain biking vacation, and on the first day broke his collarbone really badly. Had surgery yesterday. Three months to heal, poor guy. Cody's mom was pretty anxious all weekend, because they boys were in Canada and not answering their phones.

But we drove up to Idaho with the dogs late Friday night - listened to the new RHCP album - and then on Saturday headed out to Twin Falls for Steven's wedding, which was lovely, reception and all. Steven set Cody and I up on our first date, and he's been Cody's friend since elementary school, so we had to go. His new wife seems like a fun, bright woman. After the wedding, Cody hung out with Logan, his old ex-marine buddy, and they bonded over firearms, knives, and other manly things while I huddled up and tried to write.

Sunday we headed back south. We're headed further south to my parents this weekend for the 4th, so that will be an adventure. Since Kip is injured and recuperating, we've hired the neighbor kids to watch the dogs while we are gone, which will also be an adventure.

So...I'm a bit tired and scattered, but I am surviving.

We are doing a veil dance for advanced class this time, and I am excited. I've been faithfully practicing my veil techniques every day. My tear drop continues to be super ugly, and my butterfly wings are nonexistent, but my angel wings are okay. My windmill is short-lived because I get dizzy fast, but I think it looks all right. My heart pop doesn't really have a heart, but I'm getting there. There's something kinda soothing about making a pretty veil float, but man, my arms are sooo tired when I'm done.

Gotta keep on keeping on, though. So, move along!
