Day 1250: The best you've hoped for
Jun. 12th, 2016 11:52 pmSo...I didn't even update for the second half of the prior week. It was okay. Long. Spent the weekend chopping down our massive weeds in the front yard, which led to Cody deciding to attempt to cultivate our rose bushes, which have been producing lovely blossoms despite our sad neglect of them.
This week was long. Long and tiring. Spent four days in court and the fifth day on the road, driving up and down the valley and having chats with traumatized children and sometimes their parents. Like you do. Had a removal this week, one that went so badly cops had to be called. I almost ruined a mediation by discovering that a parent had been declared non competent for legal purposes within the last six months, but the older, smarter lawyers found a way for us to avoid trial. Had a parent VR, and then the other parent lose services later that week. Drug court wasn't so bad - didn't send scads of parents to jail this time around.
The highlights of the week, hands down, were dancing and friends. Monday night I hung out with the girls. Danced and talked, had tasty gyros with Cody after dance practice because he was at the lab late and my one dance friend - Teacher Angela - lives near campus, so it was easy for me to leave dance practice, swing by the lab, and grab him for dinner. Wednesday night, dance practice was pretty brutal, because it was dress rehearsal, and it was hot. We got to dance out on the grass some, though, to prepare for performing in the grass. Have to pick my feet up more so I don't get stuck in the grass - don't slide as well as on the dance studio floor, that's for sure. Flooring matters with dance.
We skipped cubs this week because our one cub was out of town for summer holidays and it seemed pointless to have just the one boy come, so there you go.
Friday night I hung out with the girls, which was fun. We ate, we talked, we did henna tattoos while our food settled, and then we danced, which was good times. Saturday was performance, which was a bit nerve-wracking,because it was raining when I first arrived at the park. The rain had let up by the time we started dancing, and by the time the professional dancers were performing, the sun was shining, and their glittery costumes positively sparkled in the sunlight. Afterward a bunch of us went out for food, and while we were at the restaurant, we made plans to hang out.
So...today I slept in. Slept in so hard. I needed it, though. Been averaging four hours of sleep a night in the last week, which is not my friend. We got drafted to teach the five year olds again, which was rough. I am an awful disciplinarian. Cody is better at it than I am. And the kids were just hyper today. We did a lot of wriggle activities, but they were still all over the place. Hoo boy. Afterward we went home, and I had a nap, but then I had to go meet with the scout committee, and then I came back home and we girls hung out and watched Ferocious Planet (and spent most of the time yelling at the characters on the screen and feeling bad for Murphy), ate some tasty grilled tacos (Cody's younger brother did the grilling) and then watched Baby Boot Camp, during which I did more henna tattoos, including one for Kieran. I must say, henna tattoos are waaay easier with the pre-done foil cones than with the stuff I have to mix and stick in a cone myself.
Overall, it was a pretty long week, but I survived, and it ended on a good note, so that's what counts.
Here's to a better week this week. Schedule is kind of crazy, but having a day off before the next dance session will probably help me get caught up on stuff like...laundry.
