That was last week. Last week was exhausting. We tiled the floor. We were exhausted. We grouted the floor. We were exhausted and sore. We were too tired to cook a lot of the time. It was cold.

I went to two funerals. One was for the father of one of my groups of kids, and it was well-attended, so that was good. Sad moment when all the kids were herded onto the stand in the chapel to sing a hymn for their dear departed dad and they only knew the first verse. I felt awkward the entire time I was at the funeral, partially because it's a bit uncanny, sitting beside colleagues and sharing hymn books and fumbling through hymns. Also, I was wearing pants at church, which is super weird for me. And I saw one of the kids and parents from another case of mine.

And then there was the girl in the black backless prom dress and snow boots.

There was a team meeting that was awful, and it devolved into a screaming match at one point. Haven't heard cussing like that since I was party to an upset between several Iraq vets from different branches of the armed forces. Way to go, Grandma. The meeting would have been even more awful if Alan wasn't there, but as it was, I was tense the entire time. That much hatred is palpable.

Friday night one of my cases exploded, leading to dozens of calls to caseworkers, calls from my kid, calls from a foster dad, and, most memorably, from a county sheriff.

Good times.

But it wasn't an awful week. I got bored and watched nerdy sci fi actor interviews on YouTube and learned surprising things (Joe Flanigan once worked for President Bush Sr and Kavan Smith spent time in a juvenile detention center, where he found his passion for acting). I learned the first, er, third of Adele's Someone Like You on piano, and it's not as repetitive as you'd think, which means I had to memorize the entire thing (because I learned off a YouTube video instead of sheet music).

I finished my first knitted scarf (since college, at any rate, but much better than the last one) and have started on a purl scarf (which is going much more slowly).

Dingo has learned to lure me away from food I am cooking by pretending he wants to go outside and then, when I go open the door, bolting for the food.

Tricky dog.

My mother has discovered what all of us already know: Caroline Bingley is an awful human being, and we all hate her. (Though there was a brief moment of confusion when my mother referred to her as Charlotte, and Charlotte Lucas is very sweet.)

Also, I started writing on comment_fic a little bit every day, and one of the stories spawned a crazy plot bunny.

Go figure.

And today I went on a home visit and learned about the major premise for the show Saving Hope (which I've been meaning to watch anyway because I still kind of adore Michael Shanks) and also how to tell the members of One Direction apart (80% success rate so far so long as none of them ever change their hair; I now greatly admire my mother's ability to tell the Backstreet Boys and NSYNC apart and also occasionally identify individual members of each band).

But work keeps on coming. Gotta do it.

Strolled down musical memory lane with Cody the other day, so I've been listening to the Offspring again, and then I heard about David Bowie, so I've been listening to his stuff too, which has made me ridiculously happy.

Good times.

Go team.
