Post 1130: Dingo of unknown Origin
Aug. 10th, 2014 05:34 pmIt's been a long week. Earlier this week, we discovered that Dingo was shot by an airgun pellet. Someone shot him while he was still in our yard, probably chained up and defenseless. Then on Friday he escaped from the yard, and Cody and I had to go on a pre-work dog hunt, including calling the police and the county dog shelter. I had to run to court (still wearing sneakers from when I was pounding the pavement during the foot portion of the dog hunt) and...yeah. It's been stressful.
I was in court all five days this week. Got my first injured baby, four months old with a broken femur. Doctor opined that the injury wasn't accidental. I wanted to hit something. I wanted to cry. We waited around for over two hours to go in for the shelter hearing, and it got continued to Friday.
Instead of crying, this week I ate a lot of junk food, like kolaches from the Czech bakery down the street from the office and a whole lot of Sodalicious. Had the continued hearing on Friday, which also took 2 hours (most shelter hearings last for 10 minutes). I also went dancing, and for the first time in my life, I'm confident that I can pull off a solo. I can do some of it improv, and with every iteration it got better and better, and I'm feeling okay as a dancer.
I've been having fun with Cody this week, hanging out and watching House and BSG, playing with the dogs, driving up the canyon, playing music. He went to scout camp Friday night, and Angela came over for pizza and Stargate.
This week, also, I started running. Oh man. That first day was awful, but I survived. I alternated walking and running, always with the dogs, and I survived. I guess I've been jogging more than running, but I was consistent. BenTen and I have been encouraging each other on Twitter, and we're calling our new fitness goals #FitForEngland, since we plan on being fitter than we are now to survive the locks on the canals and walking around and having an awesome time.
I have started crocheting again, for the first time ina few months. I'd stopped for a bit because Tunisian crochet was proving so aggravating, and also because I lost one of my pattern books, but I found the book again and also found a new pattern I want to try...and now I am back! I have been lazy about the whole language thing, but after an attempt at some Spanish and French recently, I think I'd better pick it up again. Shorthand is was going well till I accidentally killed my shorthand pen. Luckily, I found another one online, and now that I know what I was doing wrong before, shorthand is going much more smoothly.
I have been writing much more as well, which makes me happy. I've pretty much taken a break from my long-term writing projects (I work on them here and there, but my focus is elsewhere) to embark on a self-directed creative writing course. I always did well in creative writing classes as far as creativity and motivation, and I think it's going to help, to get me out of the rut I've been in.
So here goes. Here is to a better week. I have training out of town this week, for which I am mildly apprehensive. But I think it will go well.
