So...most of last week involves being terribly awfully sick. I worked through my illness. I turned my notice into my boss on Monday, and on Friday I received paperwork from the new office so I can get all set up to work there. There are soooo many background checks required to work with kids and DCFS, but hey, I'm a lawyer admitted to the Utah bar. If I can pass an FBI background check, I can pass a check to work with kids, seeing how all I've done since the FBI background check is get married and move a couple of times. Not even a traffic ticket to my name. Still, so much paperwork. And reading to do. I need to read whole sections of the Utah code en masse, as well as HR manuals, and a bunch of other stuff. Still, my boss took word of my new job really well, so I am glad.
I ended up taking Friday off of work because I had spent the last couple of nights waking up at all hours and hacking up a lung. The verdict? Bronchitis. I got Ivy's stitches checked on Friday, and she is well on her way to healing. Also, she and Dingo are slowly getting along better. They still get rowdy, and he still starts stuff he shouldn't, but she's learning to be more gentle with him, and eventually they tire each other out. Also, when Dingo is in his pen, Ivy will come keep him occupied and keep him company, which saves me from rushing around like a chicken with my head cut off. Every time I leave the room with the pen in it he cries (Ivy did the same thing when she first came home with us), and I've been running back and forth to the kettle to make myself honey tea to help soothe my throat.
Cody and I bought a new toilet with the expectation that my brother-in-law would come on south to help finish the light install and help put in the toilet, but since we are sick we decided to defer the visit/install for a week.
On Friday my mother came to visit, and since I was off work we went to the mall. I bought two new pairs of shoes for my new job. I've never done serious lawyering in the winter before, so I had no winter boots appropriate for court, and also my summer flats are kind of overworked, so I got a new pair of those. Also, the soles on my old slip-on boots were so worn through water leaked in and soaked my socks, so we replaced those as well. We also took a jaunt to Victoria's Secret, because Ivy has managed to chew the clasps off of two of my bras, and a third was just so old it needed replacing, so I bought three new ones and then tossed out the old ones. We also bought some stockings to go with my winter boots and suits. It was fun, me and mum at the mall, and after the mall we went to the Cracker Barrel for an early birthday dinner. I don't get to have girl time with my mum very often. Since Cody was out at kenpo with the lads, it was just us. We ate, we talked, we laughed, and we watched some Bletchley Circle and also Endeavor. I watched a lot of Inspector Morse when I was a kid, and Endeavor is to Inspector Morse what Smallville was to Superman, so I've been having a good time. Between reading
chaos_harmony's journal and watching Endeavor, I am kind of nostalgic for the time I was planning on going to Oxford for university, but in the end, I am glad I went where I did, because otherwise I would not have met my best friend or my future husband.
Best news this week was getting the go-ahead on my novella from our alpha reader. I have to write a blurb for the thing so we can get cover art started, and also I need to get contracts finalized so we are on the up-and-up legally. Also, I finally started writing on that angel novel again, which makes me happy. I might actually be able to finish the thing.
In belly dance this week we did veil work and scarf work, so now I am making a scarf for myself. I plan on making it in my usual dance colours - purple, blue, and green - and crocheting is so peaceful. Also, I am making plenty of progress on Cody's awesome cammo afghan. Veil work requires some serious arm muscle, and I need to practice. Lots. But I am really loving this class, and I am glad I found it.
So, highlights of the week: hanging out with mom, and getting medicine to feel better. Progress on writing. Dancing.
Hopes for next week: good birthday, happy Valentine's Day, and more dancing. Maybe writing, too.
Speaking of writing: best write my pen pals. Heard from Tommy, which made me happy.
