Seriously. It's been less than two years since I moved, and packing still sucks as much as before. All week this week we've been eating out, tip-toeing around the debris of our packing endeavours, and watching a whole lot of Burn Notice in an effort not to pack. Since the mattress is starting to torture me, too, we tipped the bed up on its side and left the foam mattress cover on the floor, so now we're...sleeping on the floor. But at least it's no longer smushed up against the wall.

Cody's mom came over yesterday and helped us pack. While we were packing, we found a Cold Stone ice cream gift card, so when we get done packing we helped her find water balloons, and then we went for ice cream. The nice thing about having someone over to help pack is that we sort of feel socially obligated to keep on packing, because if she's packing and we're not, that's really lame.

Work has been...slow. Boring. What my usual cohorts on vacation or maternity leave. BenTen and I have been attempting to make headway on this publishing house business, which means the only useful thing I've done this week is write a piece of flash fiction and finish red-penning her novel (which is so amazing I kind of want to cry). Also, I've started researching a new novel, and in the course of researching this novel, I have come up with a much more interesting new concept. My mother has connected me with some nice administrative assistants at my dad's company, and they have been super adorable and cooperative about answering my questions. They even send pictures.

I was in a fifteen-minute parade in a teeny tiny town twenty minute north of IF, which was interesting. As it turns out, in tiny farming communities they're much more sanguine about belly dancers than they are in the big city. My teacher lives in a house with a beautiful garden and a seriously epic tree house. I want my kids to have a tree house like that.

Also, I joined Pinterest for the first time, which means my mother and I are connected on social media for the very first time ever. Seriously, it's historical.

Naturally, closing didn't happen this week because the seller is a cheap-skate and the insurance company keeps coming up with reasons not to insure us, but assuming everything goes according to plan, we should close this Friday. Come hell or high water. In this desert, I except hell before high water.
