Day 1072: Horizontal and Vertical
May. 3rd, 2013 07:14 pmSo life has been some ups and some downs, some progress and some back-sliding. This week at work was all right, not great till today when a law suit landed on my desk and it was discovery time. I'd only talked to my boss about it the week before, too, and we agreed since we hadn't heard anything it was probably dead. We were wrong. But that's okay. Trial prep is my thing. Sort of. It's been nearly two years since I've had to draft discovery responses, but I did it.
I also ran around and interviewed a bunch of my coworkers. In doing so I remembered that I need to bring a nerf gun to work for when I venture to the upper floors, and also Nate has the prettiest green eyes ever - pale green with dark green rings, and just...wow. Sorry, Jensen Ackles. Your pretty eyes have been defeated. I remembered an old trick from one of my law school professors, too - when I interview a witness, I never take notes, because then that's the rough equivalent of a witness statement and it's discoverable. If I go back to my desk and make notes about what the witness said after the interview is done, well, that's attorney work product, and it's non-discoverable because it's privileged. (Except for the part, of course, where in Idaho I'm not really an attorney, but it amounts to about the same thing since I'm acting as a paralegal on my boss's behalf.)
Dancing has been super good - I've had a lot of fun, learned some new moves, possibly picked up some new music, and I've been exercising. Even though I didn't have dance class today, I came home and did some strength/flexibility conditioning, which took about an hour and left me feeling clear-headed long enough to work on my Sunday School lesson, and as soon as that was done I felt sleepy.
Figures.
Possibly my best moments this week were talking to my mum...and jamming with the boys. For some reason Cody's older brother and his friends felt the need to put all their instruments in Cody's parents' house, so when we showed up on Sunday, there were instruments to be played. Cody borrowed Bob's bass, Kieran borrowed one of Kelly's many guitars, and of course there were drums in the basement, and we rocked out. Sure, it was rough, and sometimes we had to look up lyrics and tabs on my iPad and listen to studio versions of songs, but all in all we did great. We managed to knock out some Weezer, some Red Hot Chili Peppers, and even some of The Offspring. I had a great time. Of course, none of us can really sing, so that made things a bit difficult, but we had a lot of fun, and we settled on three songs we'd all like to learn, and Cody and I practiced the rhythm section together last night, which was loads of fun. When we move south, we will have a built-in band. It's going to be fun, but chances are we won't have a lot of time to dedicate to it, so it'll never be serious, but we had good times.
In a fit of girlishness, I bought a 32-yard skirt online. For $36. Seriously. It really doesn't get much better than that. That kind of sale is amazing. And the skirt will be short enough for me, which is kind of a new thing, but oh well.
On Monday we danced all in costume, which was fun. My plan to stick to three colors has worked out, and that veil I picked up in China is gorgeous and really nice to dance in.
I got work on my SPN Gen big bang story done, but not much else.
I did buy yarn for my newest project - clothes for Baby Marina, and I got measurements for her, so now I have to make my stuff a little bigger so it will fit her around her birthday and Christmas. I am super excited. And I spent fun times talking to my girl BenTen over Skype last night, which is always fun. This weekend I'm looking forward to more writing, crafting, and hopefully a hefty dose of gaming.
Had a few rough patches, for which I ate more than my fair share of strawberry pocky, but as it turns out my husband is a wonderful, patient, understanding person, and everything is all right.
Even if we haven't found a house yet.
