Day 1036: Weekend at the Forge

So...my week has been pretty tame, all things considered. Worked two days after the holiday (much of it spent slamming my head against the proverbial wall over a problem that, in the end, was the result of client-based miscommunication. Again.) and then spent the weekend being pretty lazy.

And by lazy I mean freaking out and trying to get by mini-bang story done and instead staying up till near two in the morning at the shop while Cody forged me a beautiful knife out of a railroad spike. I took some pictures of the excitement, which was a bit weird because during the entire early heating and beating process, the neighbors were watching. By neighbors, I mean the nice Chinese family who runs the Chinese restaurant across the way. I was circling Cody, taking pictures, trying to figure out which was the best angle to catch the really cool glow from the interior of the forge, and then I looked behind me and saw a man standing beneath the awning, smoking a cigarette and staring pretty intently.

As my mini-bang story turned out...it's untitled. A bit crazy. In desperate need of a beta reader and then some. And it's not a mini-bang anymore. I broke 17k words, because I'm a freak and also terribly long-winded. But it's done. I'm excited - I've never done one of these before, and I hope I get a good artist. It was kinda fun, though, hunkered down in the shop with my laptop, Season 4 of the Gilmore Girls playing in the background, classic rock from the jukebox drifting in through the door, and just having a good time. I was hanging out with my husband, but we were each doing our own thing.

One of the other shop owner neighbors came by to visit, and it turns out she's a pretty huge SPN fan, so we sat around fangirling a bit before she had to take off. It took me forever to figure out why she even brought up SPN, and then I looked down and remembered I was wearing a geeky SPN fan shirt ("It's funnier in Enochian").

It's been a while since I've buckled down and written like that, so I'm pretty excited. It's my first time in a new fandom (I've never been prolific in any one fandom, except maybe for a brief stint in a very specific corner of HP), so I'm also kinda nervous. But I'm thinking if I make friends with some of the other writers, I might be able to meet up with them in October.

My parents made it home from Europe safely, which I am super excited for. Now I need to figure out when to go see them. Cody and I are planning on Ed Parker movie night this Friday night, for which I am excited, and I'm going to see about running a WoD campaign sometime before Kieran's girlfriend takes off for the big wide nowhere.

Also, I found a crochet pattern for a full set of D&D dice. Nerding, let's go!
