Today is also my eight-month anniversary. Yes, I know, typical sticky-sweet newlyweds counting the months. I'm sure that will be over once we've made it to one year (and make no mistake, we will make it to one year). I didn't update this weekend because...I was poisoned by a tootsie roll!

Seriously. I am not kidding. Apparently chocolate is like booze. The longer you go without it, the lower your tolerance gets. So I was hanging out at home alone on Saturday, having a Gilmore Girls marathon and doing the laundry and eating way too many cheese puffs, and I had a sudden craving for sweets. And all I could find that I thought was non-chocolate was a tootsie roll. And I ate one. Just one. Not even a big one. And then we headed up to Rexburg to watch a truly amazing production of Gilbert & Sullivan's "The Mikado" (with hilarious references to Sister Stephanie and her vampire novels). During which I came down with a migraine.

That lasted all the way to Sunday afternoon. So severe that poor Cody had to cover my Sunday school class for me. And apparently my attempts at chilling with the boys and telling them about my awesome ninja husband backfired, because they were all terrified of him.

But last week was...good and bad. Good because I survived a week of running with Cody, which is not my favorite hobby, but I love him lots and exercise is good for me. Or so I keep telling myself. Bad because I was frickin' sore, and also, hello, terrible weekend migraine. Also, in a fit of insanity, I decided to sign up for The SPN Big Bang, except for now I've signed up for a minibang, which is smaller and hopefully more manageable, especially since I'm going to be editing a novel or two in the next couple of months.

I'm digging the weekend writing group thing over Skype - getting some great feedback and new ways to look at my writing. So far I've failed to catch any of the weekend Skype nerdiness, but I will make it.

Our friend Sean is taking off to teach English in Japan, so before he goes we're planning on having an Ed Parker movie night. Who's Ed Parker? The founder of American Kenpo. In one movie he kills a dude with a dinner plate, which, according to Cody's sensei, is totally Kenpo.

We had a late birthday party for Cody's friend Aaron - we had pizza, watched Ghost in the Shell, and played Marvel Ultimate Alliance. Good times.

Here's to a Happy Fourth of July, much gratitude to our armed forces, and blowing things up in memory of how one time in 1776 England had a problem with some of its colonies.
