So I'm starting to understand why my married friends rarely, if ever, post on here. Because they're so flippin' busy. Especially the ones who have kids. But I'm not quite there - not yet.

Last week was a pretty good one, all things being equal. Had fun at kenpo, razzing poor little Hotch, and I finally got to stand in line for my share of the sparring, which I was pretty okay with. My shoulder has some good days and some bad days. It doesn't hurt anymore - sometimes it's just uncomfortable or stiff. On those days I'm less amenable to having it yanked on, but Herbie, Cody's sensei, is sensitive to and sensible about things like injuries, so I don't have to worry.

I did good things, like work on my novel and start in on a new bobbin lace pattern. That's going to have to be a weekend hobby. Once cleaning is done. Oy vey, but my whole life schedule has just been rearranged. I'm okay with that, though, because it means I have a job. I thought I wasn't going to find out until sometime early this week, but the guy who interviewed me called me on Wednesday and said I had the gig, so I am super excited. I start this morning, so I'd better be out the door in about half an hour if I want to make the trip on time. I reckon I should give myself some leeway since I'll be driving in rush hour through school zones and the like. It's a casual office, jeans and t-shirts, but I don't think I could show up to work like that in good conscience, so I've abandoned actual suits in favor of slacks and a nice shirt.

Still...last week was great! I finished Smallville season 7 and started on season 8, I watched more Lie To Me. I'm terribly behind on Avatar and need to see about getting that business finished, because I need to know how it ends. I worked on my novel some, and I'm supposed to be reading Devil in the White City and Slaughterhouse Five, but I'm a super nerd and got distracted by a fantastic history book instead. Go figure.

Since my birthday was on Sunday and we're not much for crazy parties on Sundays, Cody and I celebrated on Saturday. I played way too much Final Fantasy, ate junk food, and Cody bought me the next in Cassandra Clare's Infernal Devices series - Clockwork Prince - and was very distressed when I read it all in one sitting. But it was good and I had to finish it all. I've decided I like Cassandra Clare's general writing style better, as for place descriptions and the like, over Sarah Rees Brennan, but I like Sarah's dialogue, characters, and plot better, and I think I'm going to save all my birthday money so I can get Sarah's next two books when they come out. And Cassandra's, too, when it comes out. That's what I hoard money for.

Books.

I'm such a nerd.

Cody also took me out for Sushi, and which was seriously fantastic, and the restaurant was lovely inside, with a koi pond in the middle and artwork on the walls that made it look as if we were sitting in a traditional Japanese house and admiring the view out the open screen doors. I really enjoyed it. We had red velvet cupcakes for dessert and heart-shaped sugar cookies we dipped in hot chocolate, and it was a wonderful day.

Sunday started off a little less wonderful, because Cody and I had a tiff that lasted through most of church and until we got home, and there was some angry silent treatment, but all things considered, we sorted it out quickly, communicated honestly, and didn't have a screaming row. I'm not sure we'll ever be the screaming type, and I'm grateful for that. I received lots of lovely phone calls - from my sister and her husband, Lawyer Amber back in Omaha, Little Kyle - with birthday greetings. And then we went down to Cody's parents' house. I'm a tad miffed about Cody randomly springing my dinner plans out of order, because I'm an obsessive planner about menus, but in the end it was worth it, because we got to meet Kip's new girl, who is very nice, smart, and pretty, and defeats Kip viciously at board games.

Cody's mother was very sweet and baked a cake, and we had tacos, and then we played boardgames together while poor Cody did homework. And then Cody's dad and I tried to teach Kip how super awesome BBC's Sherlock is. Not sure if it worked.

But we're spreading the word.

Anyways, I'd better go get ready to head to work.

...I'm not sure where my wallet is.
