I shouldn't give up on being a ninja-lawyer so completely. After all, my friend Jenny sent, as a belated wedding gift, matching t-shirts for Cody and I with the emblem "Lawyer Ninja League" on them. They're pretty awesome, and also pretty comfy, and they made me smile.
Life is getting better here in Idaho. Or, at least, I'm finally adjusting to the idea. I think seeing my friends last week really helped. I've started watching Avatar: The Last Airbender, which is pretty darn awesome. And now I'm curious to see the movie, even though now I'm pretty sure the movie did good and ruin the cartoon. I've slowed down on SGA, but I'll get back on it, I'm sure. I'm trying not to watch as much TV so I can get more useful things done. I'm getting better at keeping the house cleaner, and I'm more cheerful.
Cody and I are both sleep-deprived, and I'm not exercising as much because I'm bloody exhausted during the day, but things are going all right. I made curry, stir fry, and some other experimental recipes this week, and I really am starting to like this cooking thing, if only because I'm not just cooking for myself. I also practiced kenpo good and well this week, and outside it was nice enough (read: two degrees above freezing) to do some staff forms, so I did. And my neighbors looked at me like I was crazy. I haven't made much leeway on my novel at all, but I am working on some other stories I've intended to write for years. I think all those years of insisting I could never write a novel I planned were lies. If I have a novel all planned out, I can write it. I just have to sit down and do it. And so some stories that were planned long ago are being written now. I have so many pretty journals in which to write stories - I just need to fill them. I need to get back on my daily writing gigs, like oneword and my drabble blog.
I had the migraine to end all migraines on Thursday. It started at about 4 a.m. and I was huddled in bed till almost ten, nauseous and hating light and sound. When the pain receded enough for me to get to my feet, I dragged myself around the corner to the urgent care clinic for help. The answer? An injection into a nerve at the back of my skull. It eased some of the pain but didn't kill it completely, and the prescription meds he gave me were the same as the last prescription I had - it made me feel like my head was on fire and one of my ears was numb. The injection was super freaky, though - the needle made crunching sounds as it went in. Not cool.
I also applied for more jobs - apparently if I want to get a job like a secretary I need to wipe law school and my legal experience off my resume. Woohoo. Apparently I am too educated to obtain a useful job. Well, it's not like we're going to starve if I don't have a job. I just need to get one to keep sane.
Poor Cody continues to be in awful pain this week due to his rib being kicked out during kenpo. As a result, I am getting pretty good at back rubs, and our house now perpetually smells of Tiger balm, which is hilarious. I remember the smell from the good old days, watching the kung fu boys beat each other up and then patch each other up.
Apart from doing good chores yesterday - laundry, deep house cleaning, the works - I played some FFXIII. I made it to disc 2. I'm seriously digging the graphics, and the story is picking up. Maybe one day I'll turn on the PS2 and finish FFXII. I started it, but law school got in the way, so now I have goals and no need to buy any new video games.
Cody is pretty awesome at video games. Being a nerd girl, I was always the type who was willing to stand by and cheer her man on while he slaughtered aliens on a machine or whatever. And it doesn't bother me to just watch - after being beaten myself, I don't necessarily need to play on. I learned a couple of new arcade tetris-like games, although these involved coloured balls. On one game, Cody killed me. On the other game, I killed him. Go figure. Then again, for being constantly told I have poor spatial skills, I manage to own people with good spatial skills - like my sister and Cody - at tetris-like games.
My sister is still annoyed that I can beat her at tetris.
Friday night was our official date night. Cody took me up to the BYU-I ballroom dance class thingie, but he doesn't do quick dance lessons well, and he does crowds even less well, so we ended up retreating to the pizza and arcade joint where his dad owns video games. His dad was super sweet and bought us pizza, and then spotted us some game tokens. We played DDR, which I haven't played in forever, and we played Soul Caliber - I was beaten pretty thoroughly.
Afterwards we came home and curled up in bed and read some more Demon's Surrender together. Cody likes it when I read to him, and I like reading to him, so I figure it's pretty good practice for when we have kids. I'm sort of appalled at how may parents use the television as a babysitter for their kids, and I want to limit my kids' screen time and teach them to love books.
Also I will teach my kids to spar.
Today Cody is doing homework, and I am writing and might finally get some guitar practice in.
And then we're going shooting. Yay!
...My husband just popped out of the study room in his underwear...with an assault rifle.
