Hardcore Bar Prep Day 14:
I might actually get bankruptcy. Today's lecturer was actually funny; he sounded like Stephen Colbert when I wasn't looking at him. We will see how well I do on essays. I'm going to watch Drop Dead Diva, which I missed last night, write my essays…and then try not to freak out until the date.
Yay bar prep.
Went on a date with Cody. We wandered around the Planetarium, and then we wandered around the bookstore, looking at graphic novels, funny books, and a book about weapons. I love wandering around a bookstore, and I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've been on a date with someone who was cool with it, too. We went out to dinner - Chinese, where I proved my chopstick skills, and we talked, and it was good times.
I'll see him next week when he gets back into town. There will be free-sparring.
Hardcore Bar Prep Day 15:
I've learnt that I can sleep in a little extra and still get to lecture in time to read a comic or some Bleach or even update a novel via the magic that is my iPhone. I did well today…although I fell asleep in a few places. Still thinking about Cody and wondering what next week is going to be like. Part of me fiercely doesn't want to lose, but I know it'll suck for me a lot more if I win. So here's to hoping he wins (and he probably will - he has ten years' training on me).
I talked to Mom and Dad on the way home, and then I swung by temple square to deliver a letter to my friend Halley, who goes home off her mission in two weeks. I came back to the house and attempted to study, but somehow I fell asleep, and when I woke up I was…groggy. So I went outside and trained in the grass for an hour. I've been having a serious concentration failure today. I talked to Angela a bit online and ate dinner. I'm gonna study till Glee, and then get the rest of my homework done before bed.
Training alone sucks - I can't get any combat techniques, throws, or sparring done, but hopefully over time my strikes will get better. I did some self-torture, like the iron cross and the rocking chair and stuff with the hopes that, the next time one of the black belts makes me do it, I won't wuss out after thirty seconds of pain.
I'm gonna miss this lecturer; he was funny. He was committed to his humor and his hypos and demonstrations and he made them memorable. Here's to hoping the law is memorable.
Gems of the day: "Piercing the corporate whale. Call me Ishmael!" (The legal term is piercing the corporate veil.) "Identify the combatants, and apply the fight rule." (For understanding priorities in secured transitions.)
Hardcore Bar Prep Day 16:
Today was just a lecture on essay writing. I knew what he said, but it was good to hear it again, if frustrating, because it's true - I skated through law school without resorting IRAC (and even CALI'd a class as a 1L because I avoided that boredom), and now I need to learn how to do it, and quickly. Honestly, though, I am getting better at essays. I just need to slow down a bit so my handwriting isn't a complete disaster.
I was so hungry this morning - I had half a can of fruit, a breakfast bar, half of a sandwich, and half of a chocolate bar, all before 9 a.m. I entertained Kent by showing him the joy of Chaos Rings on my phone during the break, and I talked to my parents on the commute home. When I got home…I totally played more Chaos Rings. I beat an entire level and three boss fights before I had lunch, but I read for Evidence before lecture, and I got done reading evidence, and now all I really have to do is reread torts, do a torts quiz…and train.
My shoulders are sore because, not gonna lie, I slinkied on a high dive yesterday, but I need to work on technique. I'm kinda torn because I want to go watch the cool 1950's concert on Friday night, but I also desperately want to fight. With an actual person. Because solo forms only go so far. And I am also a bit fed up with people staring at me. Maybe I'll just train in my room tonight, because I really do need to work on kicks, and then I'll do laundry on Thursday, and…yeah.
But I want to get my work done so I can write and craft and train and…okay, listen to lectures on my phone so it feels like I'm doing work. Torts, here I come!
Last night, Jackie (my actual roommate) and I watched the season finale of Glee and crafted together. It was kind of awesome.
Okay, so I didn't end up training. I took a nap, did my homework, made some origami flowers for Ericka, ate junk food, tatted, watched Jeopardy with my roommate, had an Internet breakdown, and talked to Angela for two hours. It was awesome.
We will both be forever haunted with the image of a dancing bear.
Hardcore Bar Prep Day 17:
Today was evidence. There was way more Chaos Rings than necessary during lecture. I finished one game and started a new game with different characters. I think I'm liking the male characters more than the female characters in general in this game, but that seems to be the story of my life with SquareEnix. Kent was entertained by the characters I played and the bosses I fought. I re-listened to the lecture on my phone while I did chores like laundry and ran out to the corner store to get some supplies for dinner-making. I got my quiz done and my essay done – and I learned my lesson from last week, so my essay is in my bag ready to turn in.
I tatted and made arrangements to hang out with Maleena tomorrow, and I talked to Logan and Amber online. I'm getting caught up on the Dagaz Remix as well as on Master & Madness, though I'm still frightfully behind on Heavy Noir. I got a lot done today, and yet every day it feels like it's not enough.
It rained all day, today, too, and the cold made me sleepy.
I wonder if it'll ever feel like enough.
Hardcore Bar Prep Day 18:
So today was a short day, just lecture, a quiz, and a couple of essays. I concentrated pretty well through lecture, although some Chaos Rings might have happened. I did my quiz and watched the additional lecture in good time, but I was really tired and ended up taking a nap instead of writing essays, which is fine, because I have all day tomorrow to get my evidence on. It's been rainy and cold, and cold makes me sleepy.
Today was a good day, though. I saw my friend Maleena for the first time in basically two years. We went to a free concert on Temple Square – 1950's acapella music, The Cadillacs, a group I saw with my mother when I was in high school. It made me realize that none of my awesome 1950's music is on iTunes, and it reminded me of childhood, of cleaning the house and long car rides and singing at the top of my lungs and loving it and it reminded me that, as much as I love metal and punk, nothing beats well-woven vocal harmony.
Afterwards we talked and I taught her some bellydancing basics, and then...then the Black Dogs had a nostalgia run on Facebook. It started with Chani posting what videos she had, and so of course I threw in some of my own, and now we're having a crazy nostalgia party.
I cannot remember the last time I stayed up this late, but now I am officially worn out, and I am going to bed.
Daniel said the new Karate Kid movie was good, so I'll see if Cody wants to go see it when he gets back into town on Wednesday.
