Or..."Not According To Plan".

That's pretty much been the story of my life the past few days. Really. Nothing has gone according to plan. There have been great moments, don't get me wrong. Just...nothing has gone according to plan.

So...Wednesday.

Let's talk about Wednesday. )

And then there was Thursday. Now, I knew my usual Thursday plans would be altered, but that's not all the weirdness.

I know no cool song titles that include 'Thursday' )

And then there was Friday.

Ahhh, Friday. )

So I planned on being out of bed by seven this morning to get grocery shopping done and get into the office, do a couple of hours' work, come back to my flat, watch too much Angel for my own good, and make lace till the sun went down.

Did that happen?

No. I was out of bed, showered, and dressed closer to nine, and then I went shopping for food and supplies. By the time I made it back from shopping, it was noon, so I unloaded my gear, had the last of my leftover stew, and made it into the office by two.

Jen and I met with the Boss and we talked strategy, how we could win, all the ways we could lose, and what would happen if we won (hell for our client) or if we lose (eviction; does our client have a place to stay?). By the time we were done strategizing, it was half past five. So we moseyed on down to our client's and attempted to have a conversation while his baby girl cried and his sister and her boyfriend tried to give us legal advice. (It was so, so hard trying to keep a civil tongue in my head while her boyfriend was there, because Jen and I had seen on video where he was beating the living daylights out of our client's sister.) We got information, I prepped our client for testifying on Monday, and then we left.

It was nearly seven by the time we got back to the clinic, and we had a whole load of work to do. We had to sort through six months of paperwork, write some examinations, and then prep pleadings for a different client entirely. We did order in some Jimmy Johns and practically ambushed the delivery boy for food. He was in such a hurry he almost walked off with the bag of food, and I nearly jumped him. Still, there was a lot of sorting, talking, considering, plotting.

Best parts of my Saturday: listening to our client call us his lawyers. Seriously. It's like we were real lawyers and not just law students, and I felt...like a real lawyer. It was cool. Also, my soul-sister BenTen buzzed in on Skype, and Jen "met" her, and we talked and laughed. It was...a late night at the office. We worked long, and we worked hard, but it was ridiculous. How long we worked. We both thought it would only be a couple of hours and then we could go home, but...no. We have to be at school at seven Monday morning to prep, and I'm going to wear one of my nicest suits, and...we felt like real lawyers. Though we were confused about some things and sent a long, detailed, questioning email to the boss.

Writing the pleading after that was nothing.

I had a soda and chocolate, but man, I'm still tired.

So this is what being a lawyer is like.

Time for some lace.

And then bed.
