Here in this diary
I write you visions of my summer...

Summer is not yet officially over, but today is my last day of work. The last day of my summer job. I figured this song was apropos, to say the least. Yesterday was a long day. I spent a good five hours at my boss's place working over the article (it's still not quite done), reading through, making edits, line-by-line. A couple of times I just sort of wanted to die. My boss's littlest girl really likes me, though. While the boss was working on her law review article, I was sort of in idle mode, so Natalie came and sat on my lap and I showed her videos on my laptop, like Hidell singing "Going Down In Flames" (she couldn't understand that Clint was playing bass, not guitar, or why there were two other guitars in the background). I also showed her an awesome video of a boy playing the drums, which prompted my boss to tell me that her daughter is playing the drums. Heh. Woman doesn't know what she's in for, given what popular music is these days. I also managed to get Natalie to stop crying, which is a magical reversal from what usually happens with me and children. Usually the kids see me and start to cry, but I managed to get her not to cry, so I was pretty pleased with myself. Natalie was playing downstairs for a while as we worked, but eventually she came back upstairs and fell asleep. I was impressed that she slept through our talking, but it's a good thing she did, because we talked some scary stuff.

To backtrack in an utterly non-sequitur fashion, Wednesday night was a weird night. It seemed like everyone I talked to was viciously unhappy, and I think I understand, at least a little bit, how helpless Sei feels when she can't cheer anyone up. I went to bed later than I ought to have, but I did go to bed. Only after itty bitty Moffatts cheered me up. (Teeny tiny boys singing pretty acapella is always heartwarming.) I woke up in a better mood on Thursday, at any rate.

Thursday ended with me eating, talking to my mom on the phone, and then talking to friends online and trying to write. I got nailed by writer's block something fierce for M&M and HN (where I am now behind), but I managed to write something useful, so I'm okay with myself for the time being. It was fun talking to friends online, about nothing and everything. I'm not looking forward to the MPRE, but I feel like I'll be able to get some awesome stuff done next week anyway, because my apartment is a death trap once more. I also studied way too much Irish for my own sanity, but was pretty pleased at how well I did. I still can't speak much in the way of useful Irish at the moment, but I know the names of eighteen animals, seven colors, and other random things.

Today I slept in longer than I intended and ended getting woken up by Xiao Qian, but it's all good. I did morning edits, sent them to my boss, and then worked on the poor neglected survey (got a friendly phone call from a cop, which was nice). My boss and I did phone edits, so I shuffled the files around for her and sent them back to her, and she's going to call me, but otherwise I am footloose and fancy free until ninjitsu tonight, and so I think I shall watch some Buffy.
